Huge pump type for newbe

I have got hold of a swimming pool pump and filter combined which sits on the floor at just over      2 1/2 feet long ! I have attached a picture which I hope can be accessed ok !

I cannot find any details in reference to whether I can alter the flow to what is required for use with a gl processor I dont want a fountain with a blue 205litre can on top of it !

The details marked on the pump are

Make  Lafert brev  (italian)
Model Lm90C2 so presume it is a 90 litre/min capacity ?
HP1.5
Volt 240
Amp 8.5

Other numbers are
1 05 15 but dont know what these mean.

Inlet/outlet pipes are 50mm size

I will be discarding the filter basket as it will not be required as I plan to filter oil before it goes through this pump.

Does anyone know if this pump is suitable for my requirements and whether I can reduce the 50mm sizes to 28mm to be able to accept my to be made pipework !

I have so far got a topless 205litre barrel with the bottom dome shaped with the help of a heavyish lump of wood ! I am looking for pipes and pipe bends/taps/connectors if any one has any surplus boxes of them !

From a quick Google it looks like Lafert are the motor manufacturer in which case the 90 is likely to be the motor frame size.  Very rough comparisons show that a 1.5hp pump can shift around 300 ltrs/min which is probably too big for a domestic processor.

Bit difficult to see the photo as it's a little on the small side, however, it looks to have an integral filter which may not be an advantage either.

Would it be a better plan to sell this pump and buy one more suited?

That does look like one mahoosive pump.
The flow rate, and the amount of head, 18 meters or so, as another rough comparison, would suggest that it will pump an almighty amount of fluid at an enormous speed.

Maybe one to keep for the ultimate processor, in years to come? What is the impeller made from. Had a sneaky feeling big pool pumps had a metal impeller.

Ooh you've woken up the pumpophiles

What materials are used in its construction?  So long as all the parts are metal and there is no plastic/noryl/PPO in contact with the pumped liquid, all should be OK.

However, I suspect since most pool pumps are low temperature it is very likely that the casing for the filter component is PPO, which turns soft and brittle with biodiesel/methanol/catalyst (Head Womble and myself have experimented with PPO impellers, and it didn't end well).
