Old wood / coal burning kitchen range, anybody know anything about it?

A friend has this in his garage & asked me to investigate.

Does anyone know anything about these things? Age, whether it's OK for everyday safe use, if it can be used to heat a house, or indeed anything at all? Do they have any value?

must be worth at least £200, It looks like it can heat water but would have to look at the back.

I wonder how old it actually is.  The grate bars look too fresh to have seen much use (obviously could have been replaced), but somone has certainly managed to crack the back, and theres the bit of rust inside (but that probably happened when it was not running)

You do need to find out what it is though - it could be worth somthing more than just a stove, but i suspect it isnt that old at all (ie a few decades, rather than ancient)

Certainly looks the part. Any other markings on it? I've googled New Hanover quite a bit, and can't find a thing about it.

I've got an almost identical stove sitting at the bottom of the garden, not in such good condition though.  I recon they may have been narrow boat stoves and I agree with previous comments, I don't thing they are that old.

I did see one in good nick for sale in a stove emporium.  I think it was marked up at 200 - 300 quid, cant quite remember.  It certainly wasn't quite enough for me to rush out and restore mine.

Write them a letter saying that you will charge them storage, £2.00/day isn't unreasonable, if it's not collected within 7 days and send it recorded delivery. 

What did they value their bottles at? Was it £20.00?  After a moth write claiming a lien over the bottle.  You should then be able to do with it as you please. 

Any longer than that claim that they owe you X amount and take them to the small claims court to recover your debt.

Come on Julian ... attack is the best form of defence.

I did get a message on the answerphone telling me they would collect it on friday.

Id previously told them i wasnt going to be in on friday....

Who knows if they came or not.

Dont know about the scrap yard, but they did say that they collected them from the tip.

My neighbour works for a local council and when this cropped up previously I asked him what happened to gas bottles taken to the tip, sorry ... recycling centre.  He didn't know but was going to find out.

He also said if any one reported a bottle as being flytipped, the council are obliged to go and collect it.  From what Calor are saying if the Council phoned them, they should go and collect it and save the tax payer a bit of cash.

If I find out any more I'll post up.
