I had a Peugeot once ... not by choice you understand, and beyond a shadow of doubt, it was the worst car I've ever driven.

If you turned the AC on the thing only just pulled away on the flat ... you never even stood a chance of moving on a hill.  It used to get beaten away from the lights by London taxis.

Then to add insult to injury some pillock of a French designer went and fitted a rear spoiler on a normally aspirated front wheel drive diesel!  How dose that work?  Any company that sanctions design decisions so outrageously stupid can't possibly make cars worthy of more than a maiden journey from the factory direct to the scrap yard (assuming it's not a hot day and there are no hills en-route).

There were bloody great lumps of pig iron bolted to the engine ... what the hell are they for? Is it the same as a five year old riding a bike with stabilisers.

If a Peugeot were the last car left on earth, I'd choose to walk (probably be quicker in the long run).

I have to admit that th N/A 1.9 XUD was shockingly slow, except in the BX which weighed half as much as the 405/6/7.

The turbo'd version was another story though, I had a 1.7 turbo'd BX probably the fastest diesel I've ever driven.

Poor thing will have a complex now.

I like them for their seriously good fuel economy and a reliable engine, just don't expect much of the electrical stuff to work properly (or at all) or the suspension to hold out over speed bumps.

I've had several Pugs/Citroens now and it has to be said that I bought all of them based on price and availability (ie they were cheap and roadworthy and in front of me at the time :p )

Aye, when I had my 405TD I had a bit of a race with a workmate who had the N/A 1.9. I say race, that was about 8 years ago he's probably still only halfway along the 1/4 mile :p

To measure a standing 1/4 you need a calendar rather than stop watch for the N/A engine.

406s were good cars. I bought a new one in 2001 and sold it in 2013 with just short of 200,000 miles on it. That car didn't owe me any money. All it needed in 12 years was an exhaust and a clutch and it was running just fine when I sold it. Galvanised too, so no rust to speak of. I wish I hadn't sold it, especially since I discovered bio only a month or two afterwards and it was a diesel. That's a good car for £180!
