Quite clearly as mad as a bag of hamsters, the middle of the desert is probably the safest place for that thing, and him.
Got to hand it to him, he's thought that out pretty well. I wasn't expecting to see flame like that coming out of the flue. That's insane.
Only watched the first 15 minutes, coz it's gonna rob all my top up. I'll watch the whole thing when I get some more.
Very cool.

Is that a gasification rig?

Not in it's purest form. A gasifier would just be producing gas, but it seems like he has set it up to do that aswell as burning it.

If you want to see gasifiers, just google "wood gasifier". They are some awesome things.

This is what he has done, in it's simplest form. (random link)

i have the space, the time, the tinsnips and the wood. i see another project on the horizon. not sure if i am mad enought though. still thinking about the pyrolylis system. i have a load of empty milk bottles and a wood chipper, so want to see if i can produce any  useful amounts of oil from them.

That is one of the most interesting papers I have (partially) read on them.

This is interesting.
"Another potentially interesting use of producer gas is
to generate electric power using fuel cells. A fuel cell
is an electrochemical device that converts chemical
energy into electricity directly without moving parts.
Fuel cell development is very active at present, and
some fuel cells may soon be available for use with
producer gas."

Have you seen the FEMA plans?

It does seem as though this is pretty basic, and the designs have been improved considerably since then. It's said about the web that they were a bit prone to exploding, or poisoning peeps with carbon monoxide.

What I found interesting is that you can use the Fischer傍ropsch process to recombine syngas into useable fuels. It's much more controllable than the pyrolysis technique for producing fuel.

South Africa (AFAIK) use Fischer傍ropsch to produce fuels from coal.

is that the lurgi gas plant ? if so i worked on that plant when it was at hams hall near birmingham. we had to repair on of the compressors. ithe compressor floor was on top of the oxygen tanks. no lighters or smoking allowed. we where changing the bearings on the motors.  we where using a overhead crane and spanners. both of which could spark. maybe thats why we where always working on our own. ;D
