LED lighting
« on: November 15, 2013, 04:48:59 PM »
Admin edit: split from VOD down? thread

same here the title comes up but not the text. might as well post it here instead.

following on from jules post about gu10 spots i was in lidl's today and brought a 10 watt led lamp, the ones that look a bit like a old fashioned incandescent lamp. £6.00 made in Germany so will comply with german regs so should be ok. the last time i brought one of these was 4 years ago and it cost me £20. not a lot left in my local one but lidl's do tend to have different offers in different areas.

I'll check them out ... got 10 50W gu10s in the kitchen!  Planning on going to Lidl next Monday, they are doing 6 ratchet straps (4 good ones and two with a strange buckle) and 2 bungees for 8 quid.

I have 14 downlighters in the kitchen, two separate circuits of 7
Originally they came with Magaman 7W Cold cathode bulbs but now have 7 Watt LED GU10s

They are so bright that there is no need to have them all on. Far brighter than the Cold Cathode bulbs and, in my view, brighter than the halogens which I have in the bathroom (which will also be getting upgraded to LED soon)

When buying LED's check the K number on them.
2700k will give a warm yellow light similer to a standard incandescent lamp.
4000K will give a daylight type light. Slightly blue like daylight.
6000k will give you a chav type blue headlamp light.
I recently fitted 47 LED GU10 type lamps in a coffee lounge instead of the 40w candle lamps they had.
A quick fag packet type check shows a £990 saving in the first year in leccy alone and no re-lamping as they last forever.

Mine say 6000 to 6500K but do not look blue. They are a very pure white and actually render colours pretty well (ie everything in the kitchen looks pretty much the same under their light as it does during the day)
When looking at the house from outside, the kitchen lighting looks exactly the same colour as the lounge, which has cold cathode golf bulbs in all it's fittings.

Maybe I will have to go and sit in the Chav corner with the other Julian

And there was me thinking most chavs were illegitimate,
oh sorry, I forgot, they're illegitimate and illiterate, plus they all say things like init, sik and call each other bro or man,
you know, the sort of language that Jim uses (makes him feel younger).
