Forum upgrade
« on: June 20, 2011, 09:31:55 AM »
I've upgraded the forum software to the latest version.  Obviously this has changed the theme somewhat - when  nice new themes become available I'll add one.

Currently the wiki/forum authentication bridge is broken (can't login to the wiki using your forum ID).  I'm working on fixing this at the moment - please bear with me.  :)

Edit: Now fixed. :)

Always did that, I guess this Theme just lets you know... won't be visible to other users though (it'll have the little network icon with the words "Logged" by it rather than the IP address).

I find it a little unfriendly (ooooh big brother is watching you!), when we get a new theme together it'll go...

Don't want to appear an ungrateful old stick in the mud, but can we get the old theme back on this version?

It's a bit like an old jumper ... it may have dinner stains down the front and holes in the elbows, but it just feel comfortable and you can't bring yourself to throw it away!

Also a link back to the antispam site again would save a hell of a lot of time if it's possible.  I had a quick google and there appear to be a couple of bits of software that do similar things and, I think one prevented known spammers registering in the first place.

Sadly the Template for the upgraded forum is no longer free - $6!  Given the old one was buggy (remember it had the post and thread counts back-to-front?) we might be better off waiting for something more shiny and free to come along :)

Anything grab your fancy?

Oh and check the admin registration settings - new users have to answer a question about biofuels - should sort the bots from the humans :)

Err ... in a word ... No!  Most are hideous!

I'll have to accept that the dustman have my old jumper and get used to this new one!

Can't see the questions, but found the Anti-Bot Registration Puzzles thingy, says the questions are suitable for 7-11 year olds ... good job we all registered before this was instigated!

I just tried registering with a genuine email address and it told me I was Spam!  Didn't get a chance to answer any questions.

Is the registration system working OK?

Go to "profile", "Account settings", "Modify profile", "Look and layout" and you can add or subtract hours from forum time.

No idea - I'll take a look :)

Yes, was failing the test questions because no answer to them was given (hardly fair, since the questions weren't displayed).  I've taken the questions away for now, registration will work as per normal.

The anti-bot quiz addon sounds a little extreme to me, not sure we need that just yet - would be nice to get the questions bit of registration working though (suspect it's just missing form the template).

I did a forum reinstall from fresh this morning, as last time it was an upgrade... but this didn't fix it.

They are, aren't they?  But I'm sure now 2.0 is out there will be lots along in the future.  There are also third party ones not listed on that forum site.

Here's the old "Hediye" theme but for 2.0:

Obviously ours was a bit more customised with some of the display bugs ironed out.
