5/16 unf to 10mm or 3/8inch adapter
« on: September 10, 2013, 04:27:36 PM »
I've got 4 grease nipples I'd like to extend so I can grease bearings without having to climb into the machine...

but these new super heavy duty bearings I've bought have 5/16unf nipples in them... and I can't find any adapters to fit them :-(

if I could get to 10mm or 3/8inch then I could use break pipe and fittings between the bearing and the nipple

anyone know where I could get some ?

I've rung a few places and spent a good hour with google but haven't found anything :-(

Go to a hydraulics place. I'm sure they'll have something on the shelf.

What you need is some autolube fittings that are used a lot in a HGV garages,
Give your local workshop a try

I thought about drilling and tapping the hole bigger, but I was worried about swarf falling into the housing

I could probably thread a bit of copper break pipe to fit.. hadn't thought of that :-)

tried 3 local HGV places earlier on but no luck

I think I might just turn them upside down to drill/tap them to a bigger size, then fit some hose to a header tank 6 foot above them and fill it with thin oil...

the grease is more about keeping the crap out of the bearings than trying to lube them... there's water and muck sloshing over them all the time (it's a bit cow stomach washing machine)

guess I might have to pressurise it at first, to fill the housing and push the air out, but once it's full it should take care of itself... unless I drilled an extra hole to fit a bleed nipple for the first time use... which might be the best way to do it...
