you sure you got the right one? there are a few with similar titles. the one i meant was  directed by thomas mccarthy. there is another one with the same name i believe. went to see nebraska last week, that very good as well. well i think it is anway to be subjective.

We watched Dr Strangelove last night, quite a funny old film, then we watched Network, another oldy but right on the money with the media brainwashing and the 'Tube generation' not knowing anything other than what comes out of it.

The post about Dr Strangelove has reminded me (as i watched it in the same cinema in brighton) that, years ago, i saw Amores Perros, and remember it being good.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amores_perros

Ive been remembering it more often recently, and keep meaning to watch it again.

Im not convinced Rachel will like it though, hence not getting around to it sooner.

Cloud Atlas.
Probably one of the best movies I have seen. I can well imagine it's a bit of a marmite movie, mind.
Watched it last night, and think I will watch it tonight again. Never done that with any other movie.

1984, Animal Farm, and now Snowpiercer.

Absolutely amazing. A cinematic microcosm of society. For those of you uninterested in topics like '1984' and 'Animal Farm', watch this film for a hazard course in understanding the human condition. From start to end you see a small-scale depiction of society from it's most basic 'proletariat' level, right up to the elite, in perfect order. And we see the evolution of civilisation from simple beginnings to science, education, quality, luxury, then hedonism, wastefulness and eventual demise, in exactly that order.

All of that can be overlooked, however, if you're just the average movie-goer who simply wants a good story with a hero, an adventure and an end goal. In which case I say the film is a good one but nothing special in that respect. Certainly there were parts where I thought, "eh?", until it clicked later that it was all part of the Director's greater cinematic design.

But for the arty film student types, this film is sure to be the topic of many, many essays for years to come.

Clearly every part of the film was deliberate - every shot, every line of script, every item in the background. It was true art. None of that quick-buck profit-incentive Hollywood stuff.

In conclusion I recommend this film to everyone, particularly people who want to learn something or gain some insight from what they watch. For the everyday movie-lover, go into this with an open mind and have a really long think about how you can compare it to the world today.

Top stuff, 10/10

I'd watch it again, but I've watched it twice now. I'm wary of not leaving enough time between re watching good films, in case I get bored of them, and it puts me right off.
I watched a few too close together, and can't sit through them now.

Sounds like a very interesting film.

Reminds me of the book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolution_Gap though in this case the globe's equator is a road that carries cathedrals, in order that observers on the cathedrals can watch a particular moon 24/7.  An ecosystem hangs off the cathedrals, as does power.  It's quite a dark book in places.

I shall give Snowpiercer a go :)

Another one I've been meaning to re-watch after many years is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Island_(2005_film)

love the island would watch that again

well snowpeircer is like what you describe tony, found it very weird, odd, watched it twice now, couldn't grab the overall theme/meaning of it all apart from the need for a well oiled machine at any cost, reminded me of rungs of a ladder we all have our place, one missing there is no ladder.
