Forums and main page.
« on: November 24, 2010, 02:20:25 PM »
It's probably that I'm getting old and more stupid by the day, but I'm getting very confused with all the forums, PMs and email notifications!

I think it's a great idea that we have a wiki editor and a public forum, but, in retrospect, is it really necessary to subdivide the editor section into three sections, especially in the view of the lack of response from the veg community?  It would make more sense to me to just have a public and editor forum, it's all about the same thing ... the wiki.

On another subject ... Tony, Rules and regs and WTN pages look great but would it be more logical to locate them in the body of the wiki and keep the main page for purely wiki related matter?

Yes, you're probably right Julian.  Unless anyone else objects, we'll merge them.  If it gets busy in the future then we can split it out again.

Not sure what you mean about the rules and regs page, you mean remove header "General" from the Main Page altogether?

I think ultimately we'll end up with categories linked from the Main Page rather than individual articles, as it'll start getting crowded otherwise.

Tony ...

Oh sorry, I think I see the logic behind what you've done ... were you intending the "General" sub-heading to read as being common to both bio and veg and therefore forming a third section of the content?

I took it to be general stuff about the wiki.

For Muppets like me how about renaming the headings along these lines:

Biodiesel pages
------------------------------------------------------------------
Pages related to production and use of biodiesel.

Vegetable oil pages
------------------------------------------------------------------
Pages related to running engines on vegetable oil.

Common pages
------------------------------------------------------------------
Pages related to both disciplines.

I agree if the project becomes too big this content system will probably need revising, but to start with I think just fine as it gives new arrivals an instant idea of content.

That was the original intention - but you're quite right - renaming would make it clearer.

This is why constructive criticism is good for our content, fresh pair of eyes and all that.  ;D

Edit: Updated the Main Page as per your suggestions.

Another edit: Simplified number of boards down to two as suggested.

I say keep it as simple as possible for now, we can always add new forums and sub sections if and when needed,

This is another candidate thread for an admin section?

As for sections as they are now, are you thinking General discussion Publicly visible board for general discussion is to discuss anything?
Coz the other one says Wiki discussion For discussion of pages on veg oil and biodiesel use.
But I thought the whole forum is for that.

I think forum just needs two sections, 1. bio and 2. veg and a private forum section for admin?
And only two main sections on mainpage wiki??

Tony ... I was suggesting using the little explnations under each heading as well.  I've taken the liberty of adding them ... please remove if not happy.
