1140 miles to a tank
« on: July 22, 2013, 01:22:57 PM »
A couple of weeks back I gifted 25l of bio to a mate at work, straight in on top of the diesel in his Pug 406 - and he's just had to fill up again after doing 1140 miles.

He thinks my bio is the best thing since sliced bread as he usually "only" gets 850 or so.

But.. I don't understand - it has lower calorific value than diesel so how is that possible?

I'm somewhat amazed - as is he.

Ah - we've worked it out.

1140 miles between tank fills, last fill was 80 litres.  So it got through 80 litres of derv and 25l of bio.  Which works out at 50mpg.

My daughter's 1.4HDI 206 SW returns, mixed driving, 58mpg on every tank full.

If the 406 is an 1.9 XUD 50mpg would not be out of the ordinary.

50! Is that all?  it should be doing a lot more than that on mainly dino.

On a run of 70ml up to Narf'k with a good mixture of roads I can get 54mpg on B100 with relative ease.

I average 19mpg around town and 25mpg on motorways so I'm easily impressed by your 40mpg+ figures!

406 chap isn't light with the right foot but gets a good long run out of it so I can see how he gets 50mpg.

Makes me consider getting something similar to run around in, but I do so love the Delica for being able to transport 8 people or be a van for big things (like the 650l steel tank I've just bought), and having the 4x4 for sticky situations... well, she makes it worth the hassle of making fuel all the time!
