You can use your phone as a wifi hot stop, but it will then use your mobile signal to access the Internet.

Also giff gaff have or going stop tethering being free so it'll cost ya.

i best clear this up, i did read somewhere normal giffgaff moblie contracts dont allow tethering, think it can be used but they dont like it, if you want to tether you need a gigabag contract not a giffgaff goodybag contract, goodybag contract for internet is only useage via the phone, gigabag is for tethering wifi apps to the net or to your laptop, so i believe ...

It depends on how much signal you have. 3 network 3G, in abergavenny, is as fast as ever you could want it. Even on a good day, where I am, you still have to buffer a video on Utube. I've got to poke the dongle out through a sky light, it won't receive a signal in the caravan. It used to, until I put Kingspan in the walls, so I put it down to the foil on the insulation. Also, tuning the computer a little bit seems to help. I can't remember what I did now, but there are ways of speeding it up.
A dongle does seem sensitive to its environment, and the weather.

Go for it. I've got mine on a 5 metre, plus a one metre cable, 6 in all. I think they recommend that the dongle is on at least a 6 inch cable. Not great to just plug it into the laptop.
