I think not. I've asked questions along similar lines to the telecos. The answer comes back that the dongle sim is different to a phone sim. Also, when a phone is connected to the web, it is using the telephone signal, and when  a dongle is connected to the web, is is using a dongle specific signal. This is why some websites have to be altered or modified in some way to view on a phone, where as with a dongle, you see the same site as with a landline.
Also why I have perfect voda signal on my phone, and nowt on a voda dongle.

The way I understand it, you need a far more sophisticated operating system to use the Dongle signal, something most phones don't have.

plan is to try get internet into my icecrpyt box, it will or can use wifi (buy wifi dongle/stick) so need to wifi it to something which i thought the phone may do. as can set it to tether and become wifi.

Sorry greasemonkey, but I don't think that's correct. There is no difference between a phone and dongle SIM. The difference is in how the operator expects them to behave - they won't expect (or probably allow) a dongle SIM to make phone calls for example.

Website alter themselves for phones to ensure that they are displayed correctly to the user, and in some cases will be optimised for a touch screen.

What phone have you Squidward?

(Seeing as your icecrypt box is running Linux, you could probably persuade it to use a 3G dongle directly. But that involves Linux magic, and will probably void the warranty if you go poking around in the OS)

Should do, although you might run into problems if the phone is locked to a network.
