Projector for PC
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:55:30 AM »
I've been tasked with finding a projector for displaying powerpoint presentations for the watermill from a laptop, I've been ok'd to spend up to to £500 but if spec is ok for around £300 that would suit our committee better. I've used several dlp projectors in the past but have no idea what they were or their specs.

Does anyone on here know anything about projectors?

Are the LED ones any good, or best stick with lamp?

What sort of spec should I be looking for to display onto white screen, or white wall?

Can't help much Chug, but I can tell you spare lamps are really stupid money for those things.

Also, I once had a plastics manufacturer as a supplier to a company I ran.  They made sheet vinyl for projector screens.  If you buy an expensive screen, I believe they have far better reflective qualities due to additives in the plastic, than cheap ones and obviously white walls.

yeah lamps are expensive thus the question about LED ones which have ten times longer life, we have a quite good roll down screen, well it's worked with various loaned dlp projectors for the last 6-7 years ok anyway.

You could set it up at the BBB,
then on Sunday you could show everyone pictures of how a Womble was mascaraed the previous day,
only problem is Jim will be affixed to the screen,
analyzing every moment, then pointing out how a little tweak hear and a twist there could have inflicted more pain.

All this will be done over bowl of Womble stew.

for power point presentations, a cheap one you can fine on ebay will be fine... when you're only displaying a stationary pictures you don't need any of the fancy stuff the expensive ones do, (refresh rate etc..)

and even low resolution ones look good because there's no hard blocky edges like on a monitor, everything is nice and smooth :-)

Depending on the size of the room and the size of the audience, I'd consider a large flat panel display/TV rather than a projector.

£500 will get you a good many inches, particularly 2nd hand.

no a monitor is too heavy/bulky we have oap's who will use it and it needs to be for audiences up to 50 -60 people.

for powerpoint you only need a cheap projector

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udhi=256&_nkw=projector&LH_BIN=1

and a low resolution will hardly make any difference...

miss out the really cheap ones and spend about £150... it'll be perfect for what you want

most of the expense/technology going into projectors is geared up for watching videos and crazy high res and refresh rates, which isn't important to you at all :-)
