May be a whacky idea and I'm guessing that it wont be sensitive enough, but has anyone got a moisture meter, the kind with which you test walls and timber?

Might be worth a play.

If you mean water in oil, I'd guess no as they are not ionic.
Bit like measuring pH of oil doesn't work, no H+ ions.

the calcium carbide method works. i have a tin if you want to experiment. i brought 2 for about £20 and haven't used them. one should last me years. i can let you have one if you like. beers tokens to tony to help run the site as long as you pay the postage.
