Brewing a batch today and went to switch the heater on and nothing, checked the fuse and plug wiring, all ok, checked the element wiring, it looked ok, then whilst checking the tightness of the screws to the element wires it suddenly started pissing bio over me!
I grabbed a bucket to catch the leak and then diverted the pump flow to my settling tank and grabbed a couple o cubies and started draining from the bottom of the processor too as I knew with the glyc still present it was more than the settling tank could hold.
Once all was drained I removed the element and found the the thermostat pocket had come away from the base, not very good as I only fitted it in 2005, mind you it was second hand.
That was after having a blockage at the start and I had to remove all the bottom pipework and poke it through and wash it out! I finally finished the batch at 9-30pm, a complete contrast to my last batch where everything went quickly and smoothly.
Now having a nice home brew all grain beer.
