Glyc amount using ASM

Ah..yes! I understand what you're after now.

I'm not sure what your current methods are Mark and how far you've reduced your meth consumption but I've taken mine to:

18lts of meth and 3 lts of ASM for stage 1.

Stage 2 is typically 0.5lts of ASM and 3lts of methanol.

 I know of others who have trimmed it down a tad further.

Nige - Try a lower base on stage 1. I went from 3.5 to 3 then to 2.5 and the difference in dropout was minimal. Further discussion over jollyments on Friday.

At present I'm using 25L of meths, 800g NaOH for the first stage,
typically around 3ml dropout in 10/90
6L meths and 300g second stage

200L batch that's prewashed with meth laden gly.

I found that as the amount of meth was reduced for each batch subsequent glyc washes had less and less partial reaction. Clearly with less meth in each batch less was getting carried over in the glyc.  The same goes for the Lye being reduced batch by batch.

It stands to reason if we are reducing meth and lye by perfecting the reaction the glyc is ending up with less excess lye and meth.

I've noticed that when  glyc prewashing using ASM the amount of glyc is always the same going in as coming out (it always used to be less out when using other caustic) but I too have reduced methanol consumption so maybe this is why.

I'm doing 80L batches with 10L meth + asm on stage 1.
