Oil coarse filtering, settling, drying and storage / Re: veg filtering rigs

Hi Vijay, all good here  thanks. There's loads on ebay from £10 upwards
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134649040360? looks like one I've used, they're all much the same really.

If you're just straining oil to get most of the crap out to store, just get a fine nylon sieve. I picked some up years ago from a bee keeping/honey website, they were 100, 200, 400 & 600 micron, just used the 200 micron for sieving the oil for bio, that will take out most stuff including some heavier fats in the oil.

Thanks for the replies. Was hoping to just gravity rough filter though as I can just leave it without worrying something is left on.

Hey Richard, hope you're good mate? Out of interest, what's the pump that would be fine on veg?

Thanks so much Keef. I have some housings already but want it even simpler.

Thinking of just using a pillowcase but I think it would block up pretty quickly..................................

Something to note is the 1.6 TDI of that era can suffer from injector failure, I'm not sure what the reason for failure is, but it might be worth doing some research to see if bio could increase the risk.

Download  the app from google playstore. Try the free version (shows limited parameters) first to see if it works. Then decide if you want to pay for the full version. It is only available for android. You also need a cheap OBD bluetooth dongle.
Have a look at the VAGDPF forum

If you decide to go for the filter housings, give me a shout as I've got a few that I don't use anymore you could have.

I filter a bit of oil now and then when I have a surplus, it's seived to 200microns into my storage tank anyway whether for bio or not, then dry it, then use a 12v diaphragm pump with a small speed controller to filter through a triple 10" filter rig you can buy of ebay, it's fairly cheap to setup and you can slow filter 20l in about 20 mins or so, depends on how quick or slow you want to do it.
Pump £10-12 ebay
240v - 3/12v controller £10 ebay
Triple filter setup - about £50 on ebay now, was about 20 when I got one.

Mine is all screwed onto a board neat and easy to keep out the way.
