Very tidy! Is it bosch powered?
-
Quality motor that, especially if it's got a Bosch pump fitted. I would like one myself.
-
Nice motor, very nice price, good luck with MOT :)
-
Only drawback I can see is that it's a Peugeot.
-
if you add an "N" its a personal number plate
-
I had a Peugeot once ... not by choice you understand, and beyond a shadow of doubt, it was the worst car I've ever driven.
If you turned the AC on the thing only just pulled away on the flat ... you never even stood a chance of moving on a hill. It used to get beaten away from the lights by London taxis.
Then to add insult to injury some pillock of a French designer went and fitted a rear spoiler on a normally aspirated front wheel drive diesel! How dose that work? Any company that sanctions design decisions so outrageously stupid can't possibly make cars worthy of more than a maiden journey from the factory direct to the scrap yard (assuming it's not a hot day and there are no hills en-route).
There were bloody great lumps of pig iron bolted to the engine ... what the hell are they for? Is it the same as a five year old riding a bike with stabilisers.
If a Peugeot were the last car left on earth, I'd choose to walk (probably be quicker in the long run).

Adding your N is a pretty good summation of the marque too.

well that has thoroughly depressed the shit outta me now, thank you.
Oh good ... my work here is done.

Nasty man, nasty.
I have to admit that th N/A 1.9 XUD was shockingly slow, except in the BX which weighed half as much as the 405/6/7.
The turbo'd version was another story though, I had a 1.7 turbo'd BX probably the fastest diesel I've ever driven.
-
Poor thing will have a complex now.
I like them for their seriously good fuel economy and a reliable engine, just don't expect much of the electrical stuff to work properly (or at all) or the suspension to hold out over speed bumps.
I've had several Pugs/Citroens now and it has to be said that I bought all of them based on price and availability (ie they were cheap and roadworthy and in front of me at the time :p )

Aye, when I had my 405TD I had a bit of a race with a workmate who had the N/A 1.9. I say race, that was about 8 years ago he's probably still only halfway along the 1/4 mile :p
-
To measure a standing 1/4 you need a calendar rather than stop watch for the N/A engine.
-
406s were good cars. I bought a new one in 2001 and sold it in 2013 with just short of 200,000 miles on it. That car didn't owe me any money. All it needed in 12 years was an exhaust and a clutch and it was running just fine when I sold it. Galvanised too, so no rust to speak of. I wish I hadn't sold it, especially since I discovered bio only a month or two afterwards and it was a diesel. That's a good car for £180!

I think I might be to blame, I've PM Paul.

I like Peugeot's and have had a good few, 3 x 406, 2 x 405, 1 x 806 all diesels, but I still have to agree with some of the comments.

I'm sure he'll be indulging in some Jim bashing when the VW is finished. That might be some time though ...
-
Just wondering if I'll live long enough to see it finished but I somehow doubt it.
-
Promises promises :D
-
You could offer its services as the hearse. You'd have an incentive to get it finished then.

I'll bet the VW's carcass rots away long before mine, it'll never see the light of day again.

Good point, well made.

Just waiting for a respray now, so if you give me your measurements Jim i can start knocking up a box for you
No need to do one for Soap rich as he seems to have dug his own hole

I'll be takin' me trumpet so it'll have to be a big box, seeing as Soapy's dug the hole you might as well knock him a box up as well.
-
Oh, come on, keep up.
Soap is now as old hat as blue processors, my current area of excellance is emulsions. I find I make these with little effort far earlier in the process than soap.

Any way Julian is going to print his own box! ;D

Sounds like he ought to be a painter and decorator

He could never be, he can't control his emulations.

Just to give you chaps a little more ammunition, I made another one yesterday. This time it's a nice dark brown colour as against my usual lighter cream ... I feel I'm getting rather creative with my emulsions.
I think I'm going to have to drop 7% washing for a while! I'll see if I can find a bionuby to give me some advise.

Have you never thought about making Bio Diesel, you could save yourself a fortune.

Including his Marks & Spencer twin set, in a contrasting colour of course?

Emulsion update ...
My test sample treated with sulfuric acid is showing no signs of yielding any biodiesel, unless biodiesel is a deep sort of midnight black. Under that is something that's a lighter colour, but I don't hold out much hope for that being bio.
On the up side there's about an inch and a half of what looks like it might be bio at the top of the sight tube. I recon that probably equates to a yield of around, ooooo, 6, may be 7 litres from an 80 litre batch.
-
After so many years brewing why are you having so many issues?

Good question, well asked.
It all started with Frankenpump.
-
sounds like frankenpump needs to be shown a red card :'(
-
No, it's too good at making bio. It's just very bad at pump washing.
-
im back
I went deep very deep off the radar :o

Paul, VERY good to see you back ... please don't go so deep ... certainly had me worried!

I had a Xantia 1.9D for 9yrs from new, not the fastest but feck was it reliable.
Apart from the normal, tyres and wiper blades, the only thing I had to replace was a temperature sender unit.
A bit like like me 'casso, in 12 yrs it's cost me 1 x suspension spring, 1 x wheel bearing and a rear exhaust box as far as I can remember.
-
Good looking mota for the money Paul, bargain if you ask me.
-
cheers dudes
its been sat outside for a week, im reluctant to do anything to it before mot, was going to clean it and get new secondhand parts from scrappy, but don't want to spend dollar if it fails miserably, guess it could be tempting fate so to speak... I guess im trying to keep it at arms length and grow no attachment, bit like woman these days :)
-

-
Blimey, very cheap welding!

Rusty sills are a known problem on the 406 even though they have a galvanized body.
It's the drain holes getting blocked (one at each end of the sills) holding the water inside and rotting from within.
SWMBO's last 406 had this even though I unblocked the holes once a year.
Once you can see bubbles in the paint it's too late, and until then you have no idea.
But you've still got a belting mota for that price.
-
yeah odd one not seen it on saloons, but seen it on my estate and estates in scrap yard...
