Title: BBB 2014?
Post by: kamaangir on March 18, 2014, 07:14:08 PM
Whats happening, is Chug having one??

If so I need to get my affairs in order... get a will done etc.. hahaha

What is the theme this year?
Any one building anything to demo? Besides all the closet arsonists coming out the wood work with their contraptions!

I am looking out making a man sized turk burner.... to char may bangers on.

Will this year's event (providing Chug decides to have one this year) include ladies wear and any 3d printed trumpets?

Any one have a Bosch IP working/mot working that we could have a play with?

Answers on a post card please ;D

You'd better wear your tin nickers, knighty's back on the road, I think, so he might be there again.

Bring y'posh frock and high heel trainers, there's talk of drag racing for the evening entertainment after sufficient rocket fuel has been taken onboard.

We could run a computation on how fast we can put it back together,
or better still how many pints of rocket fuel it takes before we can't.

The only drag racing will be which of the two old drag queens can catch the young agile Womble first.

That engine should wake up all of Chug's neighbours  :)
I certainly hope we do have one this year. Tash and I will be childless for the weekend as Alicia will be staying with my parents so will be great to get away.

Top man Chug.  Looking forward to it.

The regulars will know, but I think you should make it obvious to those who've not attended before that everyone is expected to make a contribution towards your expenses.

I'll leave the amount for you to announce ... I know costs have gone up and the contribution has stayed the same for at least 3 years.

We are going to come in the Audi this year so hopefully I wont have to spend half a day under my car trying to fix it for the journey home like I did with the RangeRover last year.

Hopefully Nige will be there with his chemical emporium again as I need some more Sulphuric Acid, centre feed towel rolls and caravan toilet fluid.
Tash will no doubt supply cakes and curry again  :)

I'm sure that my supplier will be as accomodating this year so long as the orders are somewhat similar to last years. I'll get a price list together and then start a seperate thread both here and on the VOD.

Ouch, that is not friendly boys.
I bought an Allroad Quattro rather than a Passat estate for the very reason of pulling the caravan off of grass pitches. If it struggles I will be very dissapointed
It has a decent set of Michelin M + S tyres on it so I have every confidence the waiting Disco owners club will miss their prey.

Not so sure on the Largo getting about the field as it's only the rear wheel drive version, not 4x4.  Might not stray right down to the far end of the field this time!

I've found a small hole on the bulkhead inside the o/s inner front wing, nothing to big but something I'll get sorted before it gets to big.

What addjustment do you make to the pump, was it the one on top of the flying souser or inside it ?

The star wheel and rotating the diaphragm mate. If you take the top of the flying saucer (perfectly fine, only air in there no fuel) you will probably see the permanent pen marks on both the edge of the diaphragm and one one of the points on the star wheel.
I didn't touch the smoke screw or max fuel screws.
I left the wastegate on the turbo alone too. Whilst it's common to up the boost a bit on 200Tdi's, it is not recommended on the 300 (although can be done)

PS, is a flying souser a cross between a UFO and a liverpudlian?

@OakwoodTV, that thought about tungstens did cross my mind. I suspect that a lot will be getting dipped in the weld pool as all of us ham fisted amateurs have a go.

With all the students lining up to master TIG welding I hope you have a good supply of tungsten.

Thats how you learn to have a steady hand, you get fed up stopping to sharpen your tungsten all the time!

Yep I recon so, most tutors appoint an apprentice for tungsten sharpening duties, but I like to do my own, no one else gets them right.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, do you really want your family exposed to a bunch of lunatics,  some running round in dresses, very late nights and drunkeness?

If you don't mind that then yes you're welcome.

Pm Chug for donation and directions.

There is some good fishing not far from me but its only supposed to be season ticket holders that can fish overnight, but you could park your camper nearby and find a spot for some stealth fishin, it's dead quiet at night. http://www.fisheries.co.uk/tring/

we've also got miles of canal next to the reservoirs, that is what they were built for to keep it topped up, it's a high point of the grand union canal, downhill to london or birmingham.

Wifey doesn't drink (well maybe a glass of wine) so no joy there.

To be fare I snore quite badly when I'm drunk (as some at the BBB will confirm) so I can't blame her for moaning.

Well to my knowledge no one has ever chundered at the BBB, considering the amount of alcohol consumed (not forgetting the rocket fuel) at the BBB's it goes to show that we have a sensible (well semi sensible) bunch of guy's and gals that know when enough is enough.

When I say sensible obviously I'm only talking about alcohol consumption, playing with anything combustible is not included in this statement.

Naw we've just got very well developed livers.

Like you say though I am a bit surprised no-one has chundered at a BBB.  That said I hardly saw anything of Flo last BBB, apparently as a result of Vince's cider.

Definitely a few interesting combustibles being ignited last year :)

Thanks for the condolences.
I'm not particularly upset about it all. There's 168 hours in a week, and at the moment, I've got pressing engagements for all of them.
I need some Methanol bad, which is a bit annoying. I've got enough liquid veg for a while, and can get some more if needs be.
I may do a day trip up to London and get some from Basic while I'm at it, when things quieten down a bit.

Yes fiver please Paul, oil is not part of the entry, its just someone suggested it again this year and I'm not complaining as my collections are small these days, but I don't want people leaving themselves short, only if they have surplus they can spare.

Title: Re: BBB 2014?
Post by: nigelb on July 05, 2014, 07:15:34 PM
I've attended...I could only manage a brief visit this year due to on going issues. Arrived at about 2pm and left at 4.15pm. How I wish I could have stayed longer.

I left just as Arash was about to loose some fingers on his turbo build.

I cringed when I saw Ian (redsailor) sharpening a drill.
1. set angle grinder on full speed.
2. place on angle grinder on the ground and secure it firmly under a foot.
3. Sharpen drill whilst crowd watches in disbelief ;D

I'm going to miss the Saturday night Chase the Ace card game.

Great to catch up with everybody and to meet a couple of new faces...Manfred and Rossey. Nice to bump into Julianf too.

It was good to see you Nige, it must have been hard to just come down for a few hours but we all appreciated seeing you. Hopefully the figures all balance for the chemical sales. Shame that Dave could not as been as reliable as your man.
You describe out precision engineering in such a negative way - you left before the best bits - like the turbo backfiring with a thump that Tony heard sitting by the fire and which tried to consume the hair on Arash's arm and face, or propane burning from every leaking orifice - that was far more fun than some drill sharpening

We managed the card game even without you as a croupier. We even had some new blood in the form of the emperor himself and oakwoodtv.
The womble walked away with the prize this year

It was good to see you Nige, and thanks for sorting out the chemical delivery.

It's a shame you couldn't stay longer but we understand the circumstances, please give your wife our regards and thoughts.

Remarkably no one fell off their seat during the game, but then Tony couldn't stay for the game either, so maybe that's why.
