I've seen that before when it doesn't like an IP. Reboot your router (make sure you get a different IP) and try again.

Yes I have thought that might do it. I will try tomorrow when the rest of the house are not using it

As a mod I cannot do anything except edit, move, delete posts/threads I've sent Pete a message as he's admin now so has higher powers.

I think only Paddy can deal with the new forum software that is blocking the IPs. Admins can't see it.

I did email paddy via the goat industries site but have not had a reply, hopefully Pete will pass it on if necessary.

Tried all I can think off to get back into vod.
Changed ip several times
Changed DNS server on ipad
Tried on various XP, vista and w7 machines.
Tried on wifi and cable to router.
Tried as guest
Paddy has got back and suggests re registering but I can't as I can not get past the error messages.

Got a u2u and had to go through someone else to send info, it's a pain!

Anyone got any ideas?

i know how it feels. i can live without the forum for a while, but when it dissapears in the middle of a u2u conversation it is really frustating. i try to get the conversation  onto email as soon as i can.

Since all your IP addresses will be within the same netblock, have you tried via a proxy?  Maybe hidemyass.com?

Though in all fairness, any anti-spam filter must surely weigh the odds against you if you connect via popular proxies.

Dick I've raised it again on the mod/admin section of the vod forum for you, I'll see what they say

Can you get the login page up ok?
Title: Re: Vod problems
Post by: Dickjotec on November 28, 2013, 07:13:56 PM
Thanks chug,
No I can not get past the error screen

Error 503 : Service Temporarily Unavailable

I get this on all machines. I can, however, get into the base site

http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk

The error comes in at

http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/index.php

At a loss what to do.

Fuzznag has just registered ok, and I got the reg page up ok so registration is working that end,

can you try from a different location, a neighbour with different ISP? to ascertain if it's a problem specific to you or your ISP?

can you get it with link
http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/member.php?action=reg

http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/today.php

EDIT: Dick is there anything on the 503 error to indicate it's from vod forum software?
Title: Re: Vod problems
Post by: Chug on November 29, 2013, 09:29:47 AM
mod consensus is it's most likely Zblock,

as bass addict said, it never seems like Paddy knows exactly how this thing works though!?! Or how to unblock IP ranges etc.

Neither of those links work for me just get the 503 error.
Will try on someone else's system but it will work or are least get me to guest on the site which I can't do on my machines.
Googling the error seems to indicate it is forum end which is also indicated by the fact that I can get into paddy a base site.
I will try a proxy server later and see if that helps.
All ideas great fully received.
Thanks for the help.

Title: Re: Vod problems
Post by: Chug on December 08, 2013, 07:01:00 PM
I just hope he has backed up the database and it all goes well, should know before too long now anyway, it's gotta be a big file to upload but shouldn't take that long hopefully.
Title: Re: Vod problems
Post by: Tony on December 08, 2013, 07:21:42 PM
If it's on the same server it should just require dumping the mysql database to a file to preserve it, then doing whatever conversion is necessary.  But given no admin are logged into the mybb site it might be offline for other reasons.

The best thing to do would be to test the migration on an offline PC using a copy of the database, then upload that offline converted database to bring up the new site.

Yes we've long suggested SMF as an upgrade path, even that there was a database conversion tool over a year ago between XMB and SMF.  Good it has finally happened.  Paddy has never responded to any of my communications in the past, I might die of shock if I got a message from him!

Our "Recent Posts" is a custom coded mod for here.

Try clearing you cache close and reopen and see if that helps. I assume you are going in through a new URL  and not an old link? It is not located in the sine place as the old one on paddys site.

It looks as though there is a facility on the new VOD to allow members to customise the way it looks. It needs to be turned on by the admin. I wasn't going to mention it until teething troubles had been sorted.

Be patient Pops. Paddy's onto it. He's started a thread to say he's looking into this particular issue. One problem at a time.

Really pi$$ed off trying now.

I've had the same log on for 7+yrs, now it doesn't work.

Why all the fannying around?

We don't have a swear filter on here, so you can say (type) pissed!

Hell yes!

I've just had a look over there and it seems that Paddy is getting things together.  It's now possible to browse recent posts and jump to the last post in a thread just as on here or as the VOD used to be, so I can see no reason why it would be dead.

Has the number of new posts dropped dramatically?

Noticed the number of posts on here have increased .All I can get on vod is the front page,if I try to go anywhere else its 404.
In fact all I can get now is 404

Not sure about the number of posts, I don't have access to the stats at the moment, but the number of people (both those who log on and guests) on line has increased from around 15 to 20 per day, but this always seem to be the case whenever there are problems on the VOD.

Whoever does the work will have access to the database password and thus the database contents, PMs, the lot.  I can understand the reticence behind asking someone operating an alternative (if mutually friendly) forum to do that kind of work.

I was under the impression you offered prior to the existence of the wiki.

Either way, you're still a known quantity for free, as against an unknown quantity at cost.

I've just had a look on the VOD and it's working for me.

I had to log on to see any post at all though ... how long has that been the case?

If it continues, suspect that that arrangement will severely limit newcomers as no one can see what the content is like before joining.

If you go to the old www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum you will get the 'Forum is undergoing maintenance' message

can anyone here see what's wrong with my login over there ?
(I need to get at some old PMs)

if I try to log in, it jumps me to an capcha screen

I fill that in then get a messages saying I failed to log in too many times, wait 15min then try again

I'm still listed as as member in the members list

I've changed you to a wiki editor ... don't know if that ill fix the problem but give it a try and report back.  Not quite sure what else to try at the moment.  It might need Tony or James with server access and considerably more knowledge to sort it out.

I can't login on VOD either, they've put extra security on the login (you have to enter the numbers / letters shown in a box).

Now it just wont let me in and gives this message
"You have failed to login within the required number of attempts. You must now wait 0h 15m 0s before you can login again."

Why has Paddy messed with the login ?
