Aye--They are all CRAP, overpriced and dangerous!
Its much better to make your own if possible or get a Proper G.L. type from a member here......
-
I wondered who'd be first to shoot them down.
Sorry Pete, but the truth is that there's really very little on the market that experienced brewers would feel happy using. Most have serious failings in safety, or design, or both.
It's not hard to make your own. And the knowledge and experience will help you to fix it when it breaks.
Just to prove I've actually looked at them and am not an 'Armchair Expert' that seem to frequent forums:
Yorkshire Green Fuels: Non sealed processor, No level switch, No methanol recovery/removal, No provision for any sort of fuel finishing, no insulation to prevent you burning yourself.
BioBuddy: Plastic reaction container, No methanol recovery/removal, Very little finishing. Can't see if it's sealed or not. No level switch.
Biobot: Non sealed, No methanol recovery/removal, Plastic reaction container.

Members quite often have ones for sale and a member here, Jamesrl can make one for you, an experienced brewer lives by you, Tony, no doubt he will be along soon
-
I suspect that with a combination of A&B Oils and Tony in Southampton - trying to get oil may be your first hurdle
-
welcome aboard pete good to see a new member...
stick with it and see how you pan out... plenty reading mixed in with a few Q's
and as mentioned mr jamesRL does make nice ones even if he does loose me sometimes...

Hi Pete, you're in for some stiff competition for oil in Southampton what with A&B's big depot here. But, it's not impossible!
Get a regular supply of oil first as you know it can always be offloaded (happy to help ;) ) then figure out the fuel processing equipment.
Generally anything with a 3kW heater mounted into a plastic vessel of any description is inviting a big fire a some point. But making bio doesn't need to be complicated - a steel drum, pump and immersion element will get you going.
What car are you planning on running your homebrew in?

What you mean, I've never found you therefore I've never lost you.
In anyway young Pete if you need any help give me a shout.

well, ive a dodge journey 2.0 diesel and renault trafic van for my hog roast business. www.thejollyhogroast.co.uk if anyones interested? website being amended as we speak for a new one.
ive also heard the fuel filters become clogged? from reading im assuming this is from the engine being 'cleaned' by the bio?
-
thanks james! help indeed!!
where to start. to be honest if you guys arent rating the ones for sale and more home built gear then im sure thats the way to go.
-
Home built or by the few custom builder's in the UK really is the way to go.
-
james, a couple of the memebrs state you make them?? where abouts are you? have you any pics?
-
Hi Pete and welcome to biopowered.
Self build or member build is the way to go.
Does the hog roast produce much fat, as this could be used for bio in the summer months.
Also are you busy the first weekend in June next year ?
We know why I ask. Don't get any ideas jim.

You need to understand that Jim has a trumpet, it gets blown regularly.
-

yes i do actually. i probably get around 4-6 litres ish out of a 40kg pig.
-
june next year no problem!

First Weekend in July innit....?

First Weekend in July innit....?
Sorry, yes July.
Mental note to ones self, don't post after drinking Vince's cider.
BTW it's even better properly chilled.
-
For the benefit of Pete, Vince makes cider that you couldn't buy commercially because it would be classified as a spirit. We have an annual event where we meet up and Vince poiso^h^h^h^h^h shares it with us. Sometimes slight inebriation ensues.
