What i mean is...

An ester is a compound, with properties, one of which, we assume, is solubility in methanol.
Which is what we do to test for esters (yep, i know you know this!)


So, we have a test.  If it dissolves in methanol, we can, until proven otherwise, assume that they are esters.  If they dont dissolve in methanol, then we can assume that they are not - regardless of their melting point : )

I've only ever really had hmpe's, they usually appear they when my bio goes well below freezing for a few days and they melt when it warms up again, just as they are supposed to and as such will pass a 10/90

The little white balls (tommies) that folks report which appear when its cold but don't melt until much higher temps are what I think of as plant sterols, or sterol glucosides.
