Privacy error on Opera browser
« on: September 14, 2022, 07:40:29 AM »
I tend to use the Opera browser (version 90.0.4480.107) while online. However I'm getting a privacy error when I try to access this site. I get the following message:   Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.biopowered.co.uk (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).

NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID
I can access the site using Chrome, which is what I'm using now. I can also access it using Firefox. Any ideas?

I had a simlar problem recently and found it was caused by using www.biopowered.co.uk rather than just biopowered.co.uk however I was using Firefox.

Check these to see if there are any clues: https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/net-err_cert_common_name_invalid/

Hi countrypaul,
thanks for providing the link. I'll work my way through the article. I tried removing the www. as you suggested and was able to access the site.
I've  also found if I clear the cache and cookies I can access the site using www. but only once. If I try and access the site again in a new window I get the privacy error until I clear the cache again. Weird. I'll report back.
Rumple.

Well it's working properly now but I'm not 100% sure why. The only thing different is that there used to be an orange biopowered symbol in the bookmark listing but now there's a black folder symbol. One thing I did was remove a free anti virus package and revert to windows defender so maybe this had something to do with it. No one else seems to be having problems so it must have been something with my setup.

Espcially strange it only affected your chrome browser which does suggest that the webserver was working as you would expect, but the client had an issue. The poor logging of details around errors on windows does nothing to help trace the real issues. Well at least you have cleared the problem (for the time being?) - well done.
