Adding the chems. Am I right about this?
« on: July 12, 2013, 10:10:18 PM »
I'm going for a two stage no tit.
So I make up the methanol and ASM, as per the Wiki.
The way I follow it, I add around three quarters of what I have made up. Then process and test for conversion. Then calculate how much more of the remaining chems to add, from the unconverted percentage.
Am I barking up the right tree?

Not quite Andrew.

Whatever your batch size use 80% of the methanol you would normally use for stage one. ie for 100 lt batch methanol, until you have the confidence and experience to trim it down, would be 20lt.  So 80% of that would be 16lts for stage one. The balance of 4 lts you would use for stage 2

Stage 1
ASM = 4gms/lt X 5 X Batch size

100lt batch would be  4 x 5 x 100 = 2000ml

Add that 2000ml to 16lts of methanol.

Stage 2 is determined by the dropout.

You are barking up the right tree.  But instead of making it all up up-front for a whole batch and then only putting 75% in, work out how much ASM/Meth you would use total but knock off 25%.

Then when you do the second stage you can mix the next 25% right for the second stage (otherwise if you pre-mixed - that 25% left may be too weak/strong).

On a side note, I'm just back from the shed, that palm you gave me has given one of the clearest 3/27 passes I've seen. :)

Gazebo could be a good idea, I think I have one somewhere.
I think I've got sun stroke already, after yesterday. I'd rather work till the early hours of the morning.  It was still 19C at midnight last night. It'll be warmer tonight.
