Title: Disposal of Glycerine
Post by: PD1 on September 23, 2020, 04:43:12 PM
How do people get rid of their Glycerine, I use KOH so it’s a bit runnier than if I were to use NaOH, a PM is good if people don’t want to broadcast how they dispose of it
Thanks

Use it to glyc wash (it reduces the volume) then take it for anaerobic digestion.

Hi thanks for the reply , By Glyc wash do you mean use it to wash the Oil before you start to process it or I think I have also read some where that you can use it near the end of the process ?
“Take it for anaerobic Digestion “ what does that mean please !
Thanks again
Paul

The glycerol is mixed with the oil then separated prior to processing, it is a very beneficial procedure to do

The ad system produces methane gas  (used for running generators to produce electricity)  from waste products, apparently glycerol is good for the process as it keeps the pH within tolerance.

Anaerobic Digestion is the process used to recycle your food waste once the council remove it.
You'd have to find out where your local AD plant is and speak with them.
KOH gly is beneficial to the process and as such you may get a free tip.

Also speak with your local council, some region's waste water processing facilities will allow limited quantities per day into the waste water system.

Or you end up doing what I did years ago and stacking up large quantities of solid glycerol waste, then paying for a specialist skip to remove the flippin' stuff.

An old person told my father , the money is in the junk end of the business .  Glycerine may be a burden to deal with , except glycerine has its' uses .  In fuel technology glycerine may be made into glycerine triacetate  .  It's used as a fuel additive , an anti-knock additive .  So there maybe a factory that buys glycerine to purify , then make a saleable product . The Fischer Esterification of glycerine with acetic acid using concentrated sulfuric acid as catalyst makes glyceryl triacetate plus water .
