Can you use calcium hydroxide + methanol to make calcium methoxide for transesterification?

Yes, I think it can be used, however it will give rise to calcium soaps which are very difficult to remove as I found out when I inadvertently added some Calcium Oxide to my mix.

I had used the CaO to dry my K methoxide and was not careful enough when pouring it. The Calcium soaps formed could not be removed with water washing as they aren't water soluble.  Centrifuging and Magnesol treating also didn't work.

3 passes through oak did the trick but lots of work.

Interesting.  I think I'll give that a miss then, since I only settle my bio for a few weeks after Methanol recovery.

I wonder though, if it remains suspended in solution and isn't caught by 1u filtering what the harm to an injector system and engine would be.  Hard burnt on deposits?
