Post by: Jeff_Retired on December 11, 2014, 09:07:53 PM
Can .01N H2SO4 be used instead of .01N HCl for titrating finished Bio for soap?
Thanks Jeff

Yes, it can. Any acid will work - I use vinegar.

That's interesting, how do you dilute it to a known percentage.

I use 1 litre per kilo of Kohl

It doesn't actually matter as long as you can directly relate a ratio to the whole batch.

So, to titrate 50ml, it takes 1ml vinegar. For 180 litres, it'll then take 3.6 litres. Concentration is irrelevant, it's only ratios.

Thanks for the explanation. I can see now that with vinegar being weak you don't need to dilute it to get a reading.
