Title: Pressurised filter bags
Post by: Diysurgeon on January 31, 2014, 08:53:57 PM: Posted this on the other forum. Thought it might be of interest. A while ago I made this up to let me pressure filter my oil through filter bags. It also stopped the bags from overflowing when i was pumping oil into them - sometimes i would leave them unattended and then forget. The result a bad oil spill. This worked well but it was a pain undoing all the bolts to change filters.

So I have come up with another method which works just as well and no bolts to undo. Just filtered over a 150 litres in no time at all.

if you are using pressure, why not just use a 10" canister?

The plastic used is 6mm acrylic and has not suffered from cracking or being in contact with veg oil. I used clear acrylic as I happened to have it handy, also the laser cutter at work would cut it and you can see into the bags. I suspect steel or even MDF could be used. I will endeavour to draw it up and take more photos in the next few weeks.

Good point, but I don't filter with the cartridges or filter housings and was trying to solve the problem of the bags overflowing when my memory failed and left unattended! I think this might work well with a gravity feed system, where you could leave it without fear of oil overflowing from the bags.

I came a cross a lorry filtering the diesel in a flooded tax station a while ago.
Being the curious type, I went and poked my nose in and quizzed them about their filter system.
The filter it through filterbags. Two bags, four foot long, and about a foot in diameter.
Got me thinking a bit.
There were other filters as well, but the bags did most the work.
