titrated at 1 before now titrating at 0.5. I read on biopowered about glyc washing helps free up methanol and bio in glycerol. added 20 litres to 60 litres of oil with whites in bottom came back a lower titration.
seems a lot of water in the glycerol I put this in a bin for composting as don't want to use it for washing again

is there a question in there, or are you just telling us what youve been up to?
-
no am clear what to do. just wondering should I use koh I left lid open or my my new koh in bag
-
its only gone hard on top formed a crust in a bucket but unsure how old it is came with proccesor
-
i think you should make things easier for yourself and use the new stuff
you can save the old for another time if you dont want to throw it out
-
def, use the new koh
-
thanks just won some rapeseed oil on ebay brand new if anyones interested. Good winter feedstock
-
so you will need 12 lts meth and 60x 7grs= 420grs koh base + tit which you quote as 0.5 that seems very low or do yo mean 5?
If you are doing 2 stage 9ltrs of meth and just the base koh 420grs, then after the reaction stage do a 27/3 test and see how much fall out.
remove the gylc and add the other 3lts of meth + koh according to fallout
-
mix for 1 hour then do another 27/3 if you do not get a clear pass mix for another 30 min then test again, before adding any more meth or koh.
will be online most of afternoon so don't hesitated to give any updates. good luck
-
the oil was titrating at 1 ml of sodium solution before glyc washing and 0.5 after 2 titrations
-
got my titration right went for 0.75 after titrating a sample of oil which I drew from middle of jar with a pipette in the end got 10 litres of glycerol and bright clear biodiesel
-
Are you going to test for conversion percentage now?
-
seems like there is still oil to convert, you should have more than 10 litres of glyc (if you started with 60 ltrs of oil), now you need to do a 27/3 test (as julian says above) and see how much fall out there is. then add the 3 litres of meth and the Kohl(amount shown by amount of fall out) and mix for another hour.
-
I only used 11 litres of methanol
-
ok so you can use 2ltrs of meth to mix in the koh.
how much fall out was there in the 27/3 test?
if the liquid when you do the test don't remain crystal clear through out the test then there is still unconverted oil in it.
-
worth glyc washing twice. Heat as you would for reacting, mix in the glyc for up to an hour, turn pump off, settle run off the glyc then repeat. Feedstock is often not as dry as we believe it is. When feedstock has too high a water ppm level the glyc will thicken up somewhat through glyc washing.
Resist the temptation not to dry your oil thoroughly though as glyc washing is for final drying feedstock & starting of the reaction.
It's also well worth doing a 10/90 - more accurate results.

heres the 27/3 test almost all converted
-
Looks good - that wee colour is definitely a positive sign :)
-
thanks its the best bio I've made glyc washing and titrating really helps almost a full 100% conversion
-
hows the 50 /50 looking?

crystals clear

Well done. Looks like youre making good progress now.
