I started trying to make Biofuel but I was told I added too much Methanol and now I just don't have the time and patients to faff about trying to make it, so.......
Instead of getting used oil, can I run it off new oil?
Will a diesel engine run with straight brand new oil, probably mixed 50/50 or 60 oil /40 diesel, so its not as thick.
Now I know its not as cheap as used oil but like I say I no longer have the time to mess about filtering etc but I can currently pick up used oil for £19.49 per 20L (97p L) still saving on average of 43p per Litre.

Providing your vehicle engine is capable of running oil (Bosch pump etc) Then yes, new oil will run just fine.
-
As GM says....it all depends on what vehicle you intend to run.
Some need a twin tank system
Some don't
Some...it's best to avoid veg all together.
Some don't run that well on forecourt diesel.

I am looking to run a 2001 plate Ford Transit.
Not a clue what pump it has :-\

No Sir, don't put straight oil in that. I would be almost certain that is the one after the smiley/'nana transit, and has a common rail duratorque engine in it. Comes into the category of barely runs on pump diesel.
I'm not to sure if it needs twin tanking, or is bio only. I think it is a twin tanker.
-
Is that a DuratorQ Di engine....? FWD or RWD. Some are Common-Rail (defo no veg-oil!) others VP44--dicey with veg.
If so, best not try veggy, Pump isnt too tolerant--even though its a Bosch (VP44) and they are EXPENSIVE!
Add to that the Transit is a Di engine and Not suitable really for Single-Tank.
Your original plan on making BioDiesel is the best way forward.

This has just got me interested. So are the RWD/ Chassis cabs got the VP44, non common rail injection system? I didn't know that. That would open up a few options for me, being as I don't like the duratorQ.
Thread hijack, sorry.

A friend has a LWB 6 wheeler RWD, that has what they claim to be the 'DuratorQ Di' engine--2.5 Transit, it has a VP44--The 'Granada' and Jag diesel engine...
--The Mondeo engined transit--I think the FWD has the CR engines...
Seems there's loads of these transits round, --he services them and has many parts for them, plus loads of dead VP44's! ;D
-
Thanks for that. All the FWD i have seen after the smiley do have the CR, as far as I can tell, but it never occured to me that the RWD was a different motor. They've still got dodgy DMFs anyway..........
-
Oh, well that's crap lol
Well as ive not got the time any more to be messing about with making Biofuel I guess my only option is to carry on using normal Diesel and getting raped by the lovely government :(

Aye, seen something about that on a veg thread on the Tranny forum a while back, a bloke running his mk6 on wvo. Spent ages looking around the forum and biiomotors weighing up the chances of killing a fuel pump and then bought another smiley instead :)

you mean new oil for £19.49, would that be bookers?
anyone ever seen new oil with alot of sediment at the bottom?

you get it with olive oil all the time...
...but then maybe the heating dial in your place is set to 'spend'? ; )
In seriousness though, it would seem odd to see precipitate at this time of year?

Few years ago when Lidl was doing a cheapo deal on 2L veg, we bought about 40 cases of the stuff....
Stored in the garage, quite a few had settlements of a very white residue--But it was very cold weather at the time Strange thing is, some bottles from same case had no settlement--while others did....
