Title: Effect of water absorption into methanol on 3/27
Post by: Tony on April 28, 2013, 10:19:42 AM
I foolishly left the top off a jar of Methanol that I use for 3/27 testing for a week - but thought it would be OK.

Midway through a batch this morning, I took a 3/27 and there were a lot of globules formed in the Methanol layer that settled out to indicate 50% unconverted oil.  Pretty bad!

I was about to do a second stage to account for that when I remembered the week the Meth had stood without a top, so I thought I'd try again with fresh Meth - and that gave a clear pass!

So yes, be careful to keep your 3/27 Meth jars well sealed chaps...

Good tip there Tony. Interesting the amount of "unreacted oil" it was showing.

I keep mine sealed in a 0.5lt square HDPE container.

I use a 400ml sealed squirty bottle for my test methanol.

ALL my methanol/ASM containers are kept sealed tight at all times
