IMPORTANT
This data pertains to pure, correctly made biodiesel. It is possible that poorly made or under reacted biodiesel may contain traces of methanol, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, water, glycerol, Un-reacted oil and contaminants from the feedstock. Therefore consideration should be given to these possible hazards.

Common synonyms
Formula A mixture of alkyl C14-C24 fatty acid methyl esters.
Properties
  • Form: colourless or light yellow to dark yellow liquid.
  • Stability: Stable.
  • Boiling point: varies, depending upon composition, but typically greater than 200°C.
Principal hazards
  • Biodiesel will burn at elevated temperatures.
Safe handling
  • Biodiesel presents little hazard, but it is wise to wear safety glasses to prevent accidental splashes into the eyes.
Emergency
  • Eye contact: Immediately flush the eye with water. If irritation persists, call for medical help.
  • Skin contact: Wash off with soap and water.
  • If swallowed: Small amounts are unlikely to be harmful; ask for medical advice if the quantity swallowed is large.
Disposal
  • Store for later disposal as combustible liquid waste.
Protective equipment
  • Safety glasses.
