All to do with electrons trying to find their way home ... but I'm reluctant to say any more for fear of a thread about too many car posts.

You're coming over as rather disgruntled this evening ... are there any other forums on which you've caused havoc?

Must have been a VERY big bill for the van.

You must have left Mr Logic in the bed when you departed from the wrong side ... if I don't spill the beans, there won't be anything out of which you can take the micky!

At this rate I'll have to tell my (still sore, recent) story of what happened after a 60l drum fell over in the back of the Delica and the top popped off.  Actually, no, I think I'll just bottle up the trauma inside and let some psychotherapist deal with it in a few decades time.  Just so long as he doesn't show me ink blobs I'll be fine.

Sounds intriguing. Why does your van have downpipes?  Did they fit a dormer to the roof?

What sort of VW? The BIL's camper has been at the welders for 2 years now, should be ready for paint in a couple of weeks apparenlty ::)

Asked him what parts were still original. Front doors (which were replacements when we picked it up so not really) the roof, parts of the floor and the side door (there may be more, but not much).

This just to brighten Keith's weekend  ... whilst grovelling in the bowels of the engine, the manifold, which was floating on the exhaust pipe, strayed too far aft and made contact with the live feed to the starter motor.  It took me a few seconds to work out what the crackling noise was and locate the source of the smoke.

Grabbing the manifold assembly, I felt a searing pain as I burnt my hand on a very hot turbocharger drain hose.  It would appear that the best return path for the current was via the hose and due to the gauge of the braiding around it, it worked very efficiently as a heater (scope for further experimentation as a heated fuel line me thinks).

Unfortunately this wasn't the end of it.  Having got the engine back together and taken it out on a test drive, the satisfaction of a job well done was marred by a trail of oil running down the road and onto my drive.  This resulted in another two day delay to order, obtain and fit a replacement hose!

Slowly falling out of love with my car!
