Processor pipework
« on: May 13, 2024, 11:07:21 AM »
Hi to everyone who still frequents this site. I still lurk here and check in most days. This is a bit difficult for me to explain but I hope someone will work out what I'm on about. I have a question regarding 1" steel pipework. Suppose I have two 1" ball valves that face each other but are say a couple of feet apart.
They are firmly fixed in position and can't be rotated. How would it be possible to connect the two valves with a piece of 1 inch piping? The right hand valve would need the pipe to be screwed in a clockwise direction, while the left hand valve needs the pipe to be screwed in the opposite direction. As I say both valves are fixed and can't be rotated. Is there some kind of adapter that would make this possible or am I overlooking something really basic here? This isn't exactly the situation I have but it's the only way I can think of to try and describe what I'm trying to achieve with the 1 inch pipe. Thanks for any help.

I would use two pieces of pipe and join them with a bit of flexible reinforced plastic pipe and pipe clips.

Hi Dickjotec. That's the arrangement I have at present from the bottom of the conical tank to the input of the pump but the flexible hose gets damaged by the bio and leaks. This is why I was looking to replace it with steel pipe. I've tried so many types of "biodiesel resistant" hoses but never found anything good. Thanks for replying though.

I think you need one of these only I can't see a diagram: https://www.bes.co.uk/iron-union-connector-straight-1-f-black-6458/

The one I am thinking of (which the above appears to be but I can't be sure) allows each end to be rotated (as when fitting onto a fixed stell pipe) and then the large hex allows that to tighten the two flat faces together prevening further rotation.

That's what I have as part of my pipework. The inside mating faces are chamfered to form a seal.

Thanks for the info. I knew someone on here would have the answer. That looks exactly what I need. Is it necessary to use a sealing compound of some type on the chamfered faces or will tightening up be sufficient?

No sealant would be required as the cone mating surfaces are machined to give a good seal when tightened.
