Oh what a night!
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:04:43 PM »
I put a fold out extender table n 4 chairs outside the house with a free to collector sign on it,

I was then draining a little wvo off the bottom of me processor when a geeza says "excuse me mate is this your table n chairs" yes I says and flipped the tap off and jumped up to talk to him, then helped him dismantle it (was only finger tight) and load it into his mini and waved him off.

then I went back to the garage to find the tap dribbling and about 80L of wvo all over the floor, feck, feck, feckity feck!

my tarp covered with card board floor/bund was getting well sodden anyway and was due for the annual clean up, so it didn't have much soaking up capacity left.

I grabbed a pair of old jeans from the rag bag , told Lynda to cut em down into shorts, ripped me shoes n socks n trousers off and put the shorts on then dived in, literally it was like a pool of oil, after about an hour I had recovered about 40L using a dustpan and squeezing rags out, another hour later and most of me gear that was on the floor was wiped clean and it was getting there, threw down a load of old rags and stomped em down and left it til thursday now when I'm gonna have it all out and have the annual clean up.

I feel for you Chug. Compared to hat one mine have been mere inconveniences. A cup here or there or a valve left open when the pump is switched on. Nothing a few rags can't deal with.
Hope you don't mind me having a smile while I can see you saying a heart felt  feck feck feck.

I know 80L 0f oil all over the place is not good at any time, but at least you're not scraping the bottom of the barrel for oil at present.

The thought of you in just a pair of shorts, wallowing about in used oil has brought a smile to my face.

Mark, My thoughts exactly were.........  I get a nice load of oil from Mark and then Feckin typical I waste a load of it! Thanks again amigo 8)

After getting the oil from you, on the way home the leaking cubie I turned on its side got squashed and emptied most of its contents on the truck floor along with one of the last drums we took from your car, its top had popped out and its bin liner was ripped and it was now half empty, so the best part of 30L over the floor and all the other drums/cubies, I spent some time emptying them into my settling tank and getting covered in wvo, then cleaning the truck up. What a game this is at times!

Definitely a heart sinking moment when you see it on the floor... because you know what a job it'll be to get it all up.

You definitely have our understanding and sympathy with that one, we've all been there.  Bloody stuff gets everywhere and no-one likes being sticky in a way that a shower won't necessarily get off!

A long list of expletives uttered under the breath during the cleanup definitely seems to help though.

Luckily I've only had minor spills, but I've had thoughts of making an attachment for a vacuum cleaner to handle the clean up.

It should be quite easy ... just a nozzle with a blade or scoop, a pipe to a 20ltr drum or small clip top barrel and the vacuume cleaner sucking air out of the drum ... bit like a sawdust collection system.

And all that mist generated gumming up the fan and motor, good luck with that one.

Perhaps an IPA mist nozzle before the motor to keep the windings clean?  And a flame stack on the back to burn off any excess?

could put a cyclone between the scoop and the vacuum cleaner. or even better borrow one and keep quiet about what you want it for.

You old naysayer!  A simple filter would catch any oil mist if there was any ... the thing wouldn't be used for more than a few minutes.

So you've found a way to get veg off the floor, so what are you going to do when it's half way through a batch and has meths in it ? an ATEX rated hover ?

Glad you got home ok with your blocking filter mate.

A little bit of transport spillage is to be expected.

What's happened to this place?  You used to be able to post ideas without a barrage of incoming flak.

OK ... so I'd drive it with an ATEX rated, water driven venturi.

Now you're thinking, nice to see you've finally come to your sences at last.
