An expert advises:

 "WVO biodiesel is made from WVO. the 'real' stuff (non WVO BD) that you can buy at some filling stations is less viscous and doesnt make your exhaust fumes smell like an old chip van!
there were quite a few articles on this a few years back when i first started to look into the idea of running on the WVO based biodiesel and, for whatever reason they all said it wasnt, technically, biodiesel in the true meaning of the term. they then went on to explain why. in a nutshell, the way the articles i was reading at the time said that yes WVO can be refined to the spec required to be used as road fuel (BS EN 590 IIRC) it is still WVO and NOT biodiesel."
===============================
"proper biodiesel is probably fine. after all theres already about 7% of it in pump fuel anyhow. its the WVO 'biodiesel' that isnt great for CDI engines, from what i can gather, as its much thicker than 'proper' biodiesel, so puts more strain on the pump etc."
===============================
"i dont know anyone who has managed to get the viscosity of their home brew diesel right as its always much thicker than pump diesel, and then you have to start thinning it down with normal diesel or other fuel which does seem to me to be defeating the object of the homebrew!"
===============================
"apparently the 220cdi in OM611 guise WILL officially run (with the official options required) on PME based biodiesel, but NOT the WVO derived biodiesel, or any other type."

& on & on & on with similar bollocks.

Looks like he's getting confused between running veg and biodiesel ... just a tiny bit of research would save him from writing such drivel!

Once upon a time I would have been up for it but now I cant be bothered to argue with people about it.
I know it works, am quite happy with the process and if others dont want to listen or accept reality then it is clearly their loss. I dont even correct people anymore when they suggest my car(s) run on chipfat
7+ years of making bio.

Sigh.....

I know how you feel, it makes me weary to just think about effort involved in straightening this guy out.

When I read rubbish like this it makes me wonder how much of the other stuff we read on various free enthusiast run forums is also just plain wrong.

Can't be arsed.  Let him spread misinformation, ultimately it will lead to less people wanting to get hold of WVO, which is good for those of us that collect it.

You could join and throw in some false stories about how "proper biodiesel" stuck one of your injectors open and burnt through the crown of a piston if you were feeling suitably mischievous ;)

The beauty of this is that it stops the masses joining our party, which means more WVO for us to process. :)

It's like walking into a church on a Sunday morning, standing on the pulpit, and telling the congregation that there is no God. It's going to fall on deaf ears.

I've had the local County Councillor in a lathering rage for daring to suggest that the thing he saw on the internet that will make your car run on water is a scam, while he questions the legality and worth of running veg oil. I get a blank look when I tell him I can run veg or bio, he simply can't comprehend that they are two different things.

It's not as though running veg or bio is a new thing, it's not as though the legislation surrounding it is difficult to access or understand.
Because it isn't broadcast on the news in the morning, or plastered all over the front page of some comic, then it's automatically a load of illegal nonsense, and we are liars for saying we do it.
I'm just wondering if people will still be calling me a liar in ten years time, or will they finally cotton on that I do, indeed, run my truck on veg oil.
It's surprising how little I hear about the extortionate price of fuel since I've started on the veg mind. No one who knows me seems to bother mentioning it any more........

These people amuse me.

As GreaseMonkey says, you are preaching to the converted.
The General Population are happy running on heavily taxed fuel,
 rejoice when it drops a penny or two a litre and are either unwilling
or unable to believe that there is an alternative out there.

Long may this situation and mindset remain,
more oil for the likes of us.

I find it strange that people are happy to believe the guy in the pub who knows somebody's sister who used biodiesel and it made her hair fall out, but they won't believe folk who have some real knowledge!

I am tempted to join up and challenge this fool, in a troll like manner you understand.

Maybe see how long it is before I get banned.

But, it's my time, and it's just not worth wasting on a guy like that.

I think some of it is a deep feeling of inadequacy, and a jealous regret. I know peeps who drive round in veg oilers. They could be buying new veg, and chucking it in the tank. They still run on dino.
I know loads of folks with the intelligence, space, kit, and capability to make a processor. They still run dino.
Is it some kind of inability to let go? It's like the shame or guilt for the money they have lost  from not doing it earlier would be to painful to bare. Of course, once they have repeatedly ridiculed someone who is doing it, it makes it even more difficult for them to do it themselves.
