quite chuffed
« on: July 19, 2015, 10:57:01 PM »
about a year ago we rescued a 6 month old springer cocker cross bitch that was living in a cage and only coming out for an hour a day.

she wasnt trained in any way, including house trained and jeez did we underestimate what we had let ourselves in for.

the dog is like a nuclear powered WMD. the explosive power is unreal.

even after a couple of 3 mile walks every day she was quivering and ready to go...

she even looks mental....

so, i started training her.

and after a year, we entered her into her first local show...

in the speed obstacle course she got a first, clearing the course in 3.77 seconds (her closest rival, a greyhound got 4.17)

next up was the speed agility.

she came second....

although i have it on good authority that if i hadnt been such a fat bastard and ran quicker she would have won    :-[

she then got a 5th place in the long jump and Third best in show...

and to top it all, she was offered a place in a top flyball team.

i`m a little bit chuffed  8)

Ahhaha springer cocker, well too late to warn you now that they have unlimited energy and are a bit mental :D  No doubt she shows no fear at diving into the thickest, sharpest brambles after a ball and the nastiest scummiest ponds for bit of a dip!

You won't have a quiet life with that one mate ;)

It's got a heck of a hair do. Them things can belt flat out around a field for 8 hours a day, and still be up for more. Sharp doggys.

cheers arash and Dgs  ;)

yeah tony, when i tell people what she is the look of sympathy says it all. i knew cockers and springers were nuts, but the combined genetic result is something else entirely.

thankfully she is ball obsessed so training along those lines went well and really helped with the flyball.

i think she`s going to be one of them dogs that you only get once in your lifetime. 8)

Mine looked as though it's mother had had quite a few on her. It had the energy, but was a thick as two short planks.
One day it ran up the field, and went to jump a single strand electric fence, miss judged it, and landed on the fence. Collected the fence in front of it's back legs, and went off up the field, letting out a heart rendering yelp, every 0.8 of a second, until the wire came off the post.
Nearly died laughing.

Do you remember those aeroby things? They were like a frizbee, but not solid, just a hoop. They would fly for an incredible distance. Get it chasing one of those, especially if you can train it to give it back. Easier than a ball, more running time for the dog, per throw.

they sell them in the pound shop.....

will give that a go.

im just glad the gundog instinct is cancelled out by the ball obsession.

a mate had one and was walking along aberystwyth beach one summer.

all he could hear was screams from the kids, so he turns round to see what was happening.....

and found his sprocker dragging a still flapping cormorant up the beach :o

giving the ball back is fine. we have all the usual sit, stay, wait, heel, as well as bang (stop dead and roll over) which is really handy, we have wave (one paw is waved at you on command) hi five (she cant count so you get both paws) Hup! which is up onto the shoulder (first pic) through (for the tunnels in agility) find it (she runs in circles sniffing for he ball) and piss off you stupid cow!

What a dog! .... though, if you hadn't have said it was a sprocker, I'd have guessed there was some poodle in there!

Thankfully, our springer is pretty docile - she spent the first 8 months of her life in a breeders kennel and she learned to cope with being on her own for most of the time. Luckily, we never had any problem house training either - bought training pads and everything. First morning, came down - no "mess" on the floor but the training pad was in a thousand pieces! Sure told us what she thought of that.

Well done to you and yours for rescuing her. It looks like she is repaying you back for what you did for her. In my opinion which isn't humble at all. People should get a taste of what they do to animals. I lost my rescue dog 10 years ago, he was the best mate I could ever have.
