All fixed thanks to some midnight oil burning by Paddy.
Apparently some naughty people tried to break it.

It's only the 16th and VOD bandwidth is exceeded yet again.

What's going on?

Its beyond a joke now.

If VOD wants more bandwidth there is more than me willing to put a few squid in the pot.

Please refer to post #34

I don't see any spam on here. Are there better filters, more active mods...I don't get what's going on with the other channel. What is Paddy buying in to?

I suspect the arrangements on here are different to the VOD (not that I know how new members are vetted on the VOD).

Here the system requires people to answer 3 simple questions to prove they're not a robot and have some knowledge of veg or bio (even if they don't the answers can easily be gleaned from the wiki).

They are then held in a que to be approved by admin who usually check user name and email & IP address on the stop forum spam website.  If they are listed thereon they get nuked.  I have to say we haven't had any new applicants for very many months.

Re the VOD, I don't think it's a matter of money.  It was confirmed some while ago that Paddy makes a small profit from the adverts and commercial links he has in place and since that time, following grumbles from members (one of which was me), he's not requested any further contributions.  Don't know if he still does, but he used to run other businesses from the same platform so it could be those that are consuming band width.  I'm not an expert, so don't put too much store in the preceding.

The 14th this time - seems to be getting early into each month.  I wonder what is using the bandwidth allocation because surely it can't be the forum (unless there is a problem?).

His own website does not work either, so I don’t think he is throttling the forum bandwidth.
Maybe an email asking him whats going on?

Wasn't it the 14th when I estimated the VOD would be down? There is little point in keeping it going if it continues like this, quite a few don't realise that this forum exists, so the poor members that try to access vod just get totally confused.

I spoke to Pete at the bbb re having threads on vod lasting at least 4 days (even without reply) as per this forum, which seems to be a big improvement. However with the present vod problem there seems little point in trying to improve things!

I think Paddy would do well to inform the members next time it's up and running as to why it's only available for a few days a month. A bit of honesty would not go amiss. I've all but given up on it now.

Should this forum change it's focus slightly & include more WVO info? That, & advertising the fact this is the best forum for BD & WVO matters, would pretty much eliminate VOD's reason for being.

We've never tried to be VOD or indeed take over from it - more work alongside to formalise and collate a lot of information just being passed about by word of mouth.  WVO discussion is of course welcome here and there are parts of the forum for it already IE "Filter Rigs" - if you think that we're missing a board topic we can definitely add it if it'll be useful or more inclusive.

VOD has/had a lot of personal community going on that are very attached to VOD in particular, so I can't see them all migrating anytime soon.

A lot of the banter/chat seems to be taken over by Facebook these days as well.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/515124825178995
