Need a vehicle.
« on: August 17, 2014, 09:47:59 PM »
Transit is taking way to much time to weld up.
I could probably push to a grand, but £650 would be better.
Needs to be big in the back. Estate or van. Small van is a bit too small, but high cube vans are making to much money. Would consider a Berlingo, or Combo, at the right price.
Needs good ticket.
Veg capability would be good, but not essential.
Localish would be good, or fairly essential, actually.
Peugeot 406 estate, Volvo estate, Japanese people carriers Terrano, w.h.y.
Or a super bargain Peugeot expert, or Partner.

I've trawled Ebay and gumtree. A few options, but nothing really turning me on.

Transit connects and Escort vans need not apply.........

That would be ideal, but as you say, just too far. Did find a little Berlingo a bit closer to home though. Might give it a try, if I get pushed.
Cheers.

how about a ldv convoy with the ford  banana engine? good reliable vans. might be a bit too big, but saying  that i dont have many problems except in town centre car parks designed for smart cars and mnis. old school minibuses are what to look for. usually low mileage and one owner. mine was anyway.

As it happens, a mate has a Convoy 16 seater minibus for sale, one of the last on an 05 plate. It has the Duratorq engine in it, but I can live with that.
Problem is, I'm sure it's a 5 tonner, looking at the plate.
I've just been on to another mate, who has run buses all his life, and knows everything about every bus that was ever built, and he says no way, it's a 3.5 tonne.
That isn't so much of a problem, it can be downplated pretty simple. Just takes time, and I need a vehicle by thursday........
Another snag is, it's ticketed as a PSV, so when I present the documents for taxing it, it will be taxed as a PSV, coz it is a PSV. i don't have a PSV license.........
So I will have to get it re MOTed, as PLG. That's not a problem either, it's just time and money.
I really want the bus. It's mega tidy, lowish miles, huge, and I know it pretty well, coz I've worked on it, but boy does it get complicated.
I need summat real cheap to tide me over, or summat I stick with. If I pay to much for a short term vehicle, I can't afford the bus.

definitely a 3.5 tonner. 2.1 unloaded 3.5 ton fully  laden.mine was a psv,but when i got it  from the scrapyard the seats had been removed. dont recall getting it registered in  my name being a problem. the insurance is quite high for some reason. done all the usual things track rod ends discs calipers. all pretty cheap and easy to do. best van i have ever had.mine has the pug en55 engine so a bit slow and wont run on veg. jiust changing the fuel hoses to bio proof ones. can't you get him to  take a deposit till you get sorted? a guranteed sale is better than a dozen wheel kickers.

Aye, we will have a bit of a deal on it. I don't want to get to far into owing people money, especially as things are starting to slacken off with work, but I will find a way. It's to good an opportunity to miss.
The Transit will be worth a few quid with 12 months ticket on it. There is nothing complicated for the MOT, just welding, which I don't have time to do right now, so I can claw a bit of money back selling that.

I got him to look at the log book. It definitely says "Revenue weight 3850KG". Not to sure yet exactly what revenue weight means though.

The thing is huge. High top, I can stand up in it. I can partition it, get a bit of a mobile workshop in the front, and the grounds maintenance kit in the back, plus a cooker, and a bed somewhere up in the high top.

It looks like I've just bought a stand in car, but I'm not telling anyone on here what it is, in case no one talks to me again. It's mega cheap with good ticket, but it ain't gonna run on veg..........

If it's revenue weight is over 3500kg and its registered correctly, then it should have private hgv on tax disc? Usually cheaper tax too.
Lots of 3500kg minibuses and camper vans have slightly over revenue weight, or total max weight it can be.

I think it says PSV, but could be wrong. Evidently there is some reason that it suited to push it up into the HGV bracket. Like you say, tax probably.
Anyway, that's going to have to go on hold for a while. Done the financial calculations, and I just can't get 2 and 2 to make 5. Have to hope I get a big job come along soon.

Just taken delivery of a rather nice M reg VW Golf, with 6 months tax and ticket. Very sound and tidy, very well looked after, very cheap.
Only snag is, it's on lawnmower fuel. It will get me out of trouble. Needs must............

I've got one hole to drill in a venturi, and I will be in bio production, and now I haven't got a bio vehicle.........
Is life complicated, or is it just me?
If I get my act together, at least I will have some well settled bio by the time I get a diesel going again.
