Wouldn't it be better just to get him his own 45 gallon drum of water, and light a fire under it?
Someone could bring a block and tackle, we could make an A frame, and lower him into it.

Good point. Why bother with the drum at all? Just suspend him over a good roaring fire.........

With talk of roasting Chunder over an open fire, for a minuet I thought the Womble had got away with it,
but then I realized you lot are lulling me into a false sense of security.

I know I've not been very active on here of late, but if I'm aloud I'll be be at the 10th bash.

Good project with loads of imaginative ideas mooted. It behoves us to get real if it is to be a success though, so for starters consider the heat input requirement:
2000 kg of water heated from 10 deg C to 30 deg C; delta t = 20
Specific heat of water (from memory) = 4.2 kJ/kg/deg
Heat input = 2000x20x2.4 = 96,000 kJ

My home heating system puts out roughly 40kW of hot gas to a heat exchanger measured at 30% efficiency, so 12kW goes into the water. The burn-time needed would be 96,000/12 = 8,000 sec or 2hr 13 min
To this one should add a bit to account for heat loss from the pool and more than a bit to allow for re-loading the glyc burner a few times. All in all, I reckon half a day should do it.
Perhaps other contending technolgies might try a similar calc (in BTUs if you want to be awkward :-)
