Why cant I get this thing to work?
It's been laid up for I don't know how many years. It sparks fine, I just can't get it to pump the heating oil.
The pump was full of some kind of gunk. but it did squirt it out of pipe that goes to the jet when I turned it on.
Now I can't get the oil to come out of the outlet.
I've stripped the pump, blow it through.
I have oil squirting out of every other hole when it's running, just not the outlet.

What is the bit with the wire running to it, on the left hand side? Does this control the flow somehow?

Ahh, cheers, I got 'em. Thought I may as well put it here as well. It's part of the heating for the bio processor, to heat a submerged rad. It's starting to annoy me. Falling at the last hurdle........

Double check your flame sensor is clean and seated properly.

The bit on the left is the fuel solenoid.

If the motors turning but the pump isn't sucking, remove the back of the pump as there's a gauze filter in there that could be blocked.

If it still don't work, remove the pump off the fan as there joined using a plastic sleeve that is designed to break rather than stalling the fan.

Everything is working as it should be, I just can't get oil out of the outlet. If I slacken the solenoid, it squirts fuel out. Either it's duff, or there is no power getting to it.
I've cleaned the contacts in the control box, now I've got one sparking, so I'm not sure yet if I've damaged it, or it needs more cleaning. Hopefully I'll get a chance to have another go today.
Didn't realise what that plastic thing on the driveshaft was for.

As it's a black solenoid it should be 240v

Put a meter between the two pins that are the same way round and see if it has voltage.
If you do the shuttle is stuck.

I would give you one from my work but we only have 24v ones.

If you mean the box with the reset button on that's a flame failure unit.

I use electronic ones as the contacts wear out.

I might have one kicking about if you want it?

Is this running outside the boiler?

If you've got light at the end of the burner the magic eye sees this as being alight and won't power the solenoid. Try covering the end until it tries to fire up. Or put it in a dark room.

Sadly, it's the contacts in the control box corroded away. Tried cleaning them up, but they are not contacting right.
Think I might just pull the solenoid out, plug the hole, and fit a valve in the supply pipe.

Ive got a couple of units here that dont have solenoids at all - the pump just spins up and starts spraying.

You could just energise the coil when the burner goes live (so it opens the valve immediately) - pretty much the same idea as not having the valve at all, i guess.

Ah yes, I see what you mean, just give the valve 240. There will be no blow of the chamber before it starts up, but that hardly matters, it's not as though it's going to have 20 ft of flue pipe dropping vapour back in it.
Hopefully I'll be back on it in the morning, I'll give it a try. It'll be simpler than trying to find a plug for the hole.
