TV request
« on: December 20, 2013, 02:50:21 PM »
Hello

I hope you might be able to help me. I work for Ricochet TV and I am orgainsing some filming for a terrestrial TV Channel.

I am interested in finding someone with a car that can be powered by peanut oil with a view to carrying out a short bit of filming in early January next year.

I would love to hear from anybody that might be interested in taking part or would like to find out more.

If you are interested please call 01273 224800 or email lizzie.bolton@ricochet.co.uk.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.

I have a van that would run on peanut oil. At least I'm pretty sure it would, it runs on the other Veg oils.
Why Peanut oil?
Most of us run sunflower or rapeseed oil, I've used palm when the weather is scorching hot.

This is presumably for the historical connection between Rudolf Diesel's peanut oil engine and the modern diesel engine.

Sounds quite fun :)

I remember on the Secret Life of Machines that Tim Hunkin demonstrated the dieselling effect by hammering a steel rod into a tube into which some oil had been sprayed - it produced quite an impressive bang, demonstrating the effect in an engine.  That would be quite something to re-create for the program - though possibly bit of a health and safety nightmare (I imagine the hammered rod could get expelled at some speed if you weren't careful).

Having spoken with LizzieB today, it's more to demonstrate the amount of energy in peanut oil as opposed to how you can practically run a vehicle on the stuff.

From what I gather, peanut oil has a lot of energy compared to other vegoils.
Could be interesting.

It's not just his voice, his hair is just a little on the girlie side as well.

I bet he uses Timotay, because he's worth it.

so from what I can gather a veg runner person is needed, now who do we know who runs veg? mmmm?

 ;)

im good at tipping oil in been doing in 5/6 years, sometimes I do it in shorts with sunglasses

from what I read you can use hydraulic oil / petrol / diesel / veg oil / bio / kerosene, so peanut oil would be a nice edition for testing purposes only of course as some are illegal to use...

do we get paid in a years supply of peanut oil?

 8)

hmm? wonder if baby oil runs well

 ;D

after all the camera loves me hahaha

16:24 is the demo

Damn you Tony, I have now spend most of the evening watching episodes of secret lives of machines.
What a great series, I vaguely remember it the first time around.

I couldn't imagine that on TV now, sticking a screwdriver into the oil filter of a running engine with no shiedling from flying pieces, no safety glasses, protective suit etc.

One of the others he started a fluorescent tube by shoving the ends of piece of insulated wire into the terminals where the starter normally goes.
HSE and insurers would have a fit these days.

LizzieB wanders back to to Ricochet TV head office, and gravely declares to her bosses that most promising group of peanut oil runners appear to be almost totally deranged.............:P
