We can't get anything from the tip anymore, crazy when there's so much good and useful stuff that could be used.
one of my pet hates. we completely furnished the house with stuff from the tip. i used to go down there at least twice a week and find all sorts of things. now a certain french outfit has got the contract we are not allowed to take anything. i did write to them when they got the contract and complained. not surprisingly i got no reply. the council did try to cancel the contract a few years ago but it would have cost 2 million. idiot council just signed a 30 year contract without reading it. so much for "recycling" they have a sign saying something like 65% recycled this month. 65% of what ?
I agree, morally this is totally wrong, but don't blame the company or the Council ... it's the cotton wool society in which we now live where Government is legislating to protect stupid people.
"Oh, that TV I got from the tip blew up when I plugged it in and burnt my house down. I sue the French company for letting me take it away".
Or ...
"I tripped over a leaf at the tip I'll sue the council for 10 grand so I can have the next year off work"
It's just all too easy these days, little wonder you can't remove stuff from the tip. This country really needs more stupid people to eliminate themselves from the gene pool so the don't breed more stupid people. We are very big on protectring a few scrawny birds on the Svern estuary at the cost of cheap power ... mustn't interfear with nature. But it's nature in the form of natural selection that should be removing stupid people from society.
Join Freecycle, often there's a lot of junk on there, but once in a while there's a gem or two.
