I have a 93 Nissan patrol td42 highroof and I love it way more than my old lc4 cruiser and that was a 54 plate! Only cars I would swap for is a troopie or g wagon, both would have to be pre 2000 with zero engine management!
By the way they all rust! Thought that was what mig welder where made for!

Now me, I'd rather the LC over the Patrol. The Patrol seemed a very remote feel to it, like you were never sure how fast you were going into a bend, or what a trailer was doing. I always felt more confident in the Cruiser.

Up until about 3 months ago I was a Land Rover owner, and had been since the day I passed my test - 11 years ago now. I've been through many models, a Defender 2.5TD, Discovery 300TDi, Series 3 2.25D and another with a 2.25 petrol. Various engine swaps too, including the ubiquitous V8 into a Series swap.

However, I've now got a '93 4.2TD 'Cruiser in VX import spec. I didn't buy it, I was given it with a gearbox fault which I fixed with a bit of soldering and a lot of epoxy.

I feel that both 'Rovers and 'Cruisers have their advantages and disadvantages. I haven't had the 'Cruiser long enough to really judge the longevity, but one thing I have noticed is that it's an absolute pig to work on. A simple job like changing a fan belt takes about 10 mins on a Landy - even less on a model with a serpentine engine. It took me over an hour with a lot of swearing on the 'Cruiser.

The reason I think is that the 'Cruiser is quite compacted so getting to items and clearance to swing a spanner is more restricted.

i know what you mean, as cars get newer things are more tightly packed... even down to changing a headligh bulb, cant quite remeber but i think the citreon c5 or c3 something is a day job to strip everything out to get to change a bulb... and also the price of some bulbs is more than a tank of fuel.
