Good price on Willhi temperature controllers
« on: March 24, 2013, 02:46:05 PM »
I've got one on the Disco heated filter and just bought one for the freezer.

I paid about 12 quid + for the last one, these are £9.29 with free shipping 12v or 220v.

What can you do with that? Turn an appliance on and off at a set temperature?

How many channel is it? Like how many appliances can you control with one controller?

Its a heck of a lot cheaper than a central heating controller, which is something I need.

Can't say for sure, but the wire just looks like basic two strand speaker wire. i wonder would it loose calibration, because of differing resistance. Probably wouldn't really matter if it did.

The ones I've got, have a 1000mm lead.  The sensor is a two wire RTD, so really easy to extend the cable, done it on the Disco installation.  No special wire needed.

New one looks like it will switch 5 amps (think that may be a bit optimistic), but by using it to switch a relay or contactor you could control heavy loads like immersion heaters etc.

If you are interested the manual is on the wiki.

Its a heck of a lot cheaper than a central heating controller, which is something I need.

It will switch according to temperature.  It's only got one pair of contacts but can be arranged for heating or cooling ie brake on rising temperature or brake on falling temperature.  It has an adjustable differential down to 1°C, so temperature wise should be OK for a central heating system, assuming you want just the one temperature.  Obviously there's no timer, so programming will have to be done separately which will stick the cost up.  So you might be better off buying the right kit for the job.

Did we ever get a wiki page on your controller, Paul?

If not it deserves one.
