Course filter element for 10" housing?
« on: October 24, 2012, 03:22:13 PM »
I'm still tinkering with a Y strainer Keith gave me but it's capacity for BCBs is a bit low.

I see oilybits do a 10" Nylon washable monofilament element for 80u filtering oil.  I like the idea for course filtering prior to storage, but I think it would collapse given any pressure.

Anyone know of a steel version?

Or, what the odds on making this fit a 10" housing?

Obviously rip any paper innards out and just use the shell.

I have one of these somewhere -

It was given to me, 2nd hand.  I was considering exactly as you, putting it inline on the suction side of the mono.

I think the worst of the BCBs will get caught on the plastic frame.  I cant recall what the inner is like.

Ive been looking about for an inline filter that is more like the things you get on swimming pool pumps -

I think that would be ideal.  A 'basket' where the crud went into the inside.  The massive advantage of those is that the bore is so large that the velocity is low, and the large parts would layer up at the base, so increase time between cleaning.

I did find an inline version, but they wanted £70 for it.

I was trying to find the enclosures that filter bags are supposed to go into, as i think that could be a nice idea also, but i wasnt too sure what i was looking for.

This might be them then:

Did you just pour your oil through it or did you manage to form an element that sealed in a housing out of it (if so - any tips?)

I don't like pouring oil, 60l clamp tops are heavy - I like pumps to do the work for me :)

My personal plan is to make a heated cupboard (i pick up solid oils in 60 ltr containers, and i can stack them in it overnight)

I then want to use the mono to suck the oil out of the containers, leaving the dregs in the bottom.

Probably the only way to deal with the dregs is to tip them through a waste paper basket.  The drum will be light then, but tipping generally means sloshing, so im not so keen.  I cant think of any other way though?
