After many years sterling service my filter bucket has developed a hole. So I had to make a new one.
I started to replicate what I did before … sandwich the copper gauze between the cut bottom rim of the bucket and a flange cut from a second bucket then pop rivet the three bits together. I remembered what a pain it was holding all the parts together whilst I drilled and riveted, so I thought I'd try melting the gauze to the plastic …
To do this I heated up a steel rod with a blow lamp and simply pressed it on top of the gauze. The rod I used had been center drilled which, purely by chance, gave the nice little nib of plastic in the middle of the impression. Seems to hold as well if not better than pop rivets.
Hope the idea is of use to someone.
