they're all different

you're better off keeping an old battery on charger and using jump leads tbh

I've got one...it's not that clear and I'm not sure it's the info you're looking for but mine says 20ah on it. It also says it wont put a charge in unless it detects at least 1.5v in the battery to be jumped. It's a halfords one but quite old...used to be my father in laws.

I have the top of the range from machine mart. I bought it because a friend has on for starting his tractors. Easily starts the Delica (2.8 diesel) with a flat battery. Been very happy with it.

hi all

thank you for the info, the reason i wanted to know what amps it wops up the dead batts rear end is, my petrol generator has 12 volt charge leads with crocodle clips on the ends, was wondering if i had a dead battery i could use this to start up?

I think I am correct in saying, that the starter pack will give as much as the car draws, up to its limit.  A little bit dead battery will not draw as much as a very dead battery. It doesn't shoot into the dead battery, so much as get sucked by it.

I would say a good indication if the genny is capable of starting would be the thickness of the leads. If they are heavy, like a starter pack, then it is possible that is what it is designed for. However, if they are thin, like a charger, then unless there is some kind of built in protection, they may just get hot if you try to start the engine with it attached.

The 12v output on pretty much about all gennie's is 8 ah. Which is a reasonable charge rate but wont make a dead battery start the motor in a very short time.
