My preference is strongly in favour of funding by members as it promotes totally free speech. Tony hasn't asked for funding yet, but I'd be more than happy to donate £2 to keep this online.
This isn't 'my' forum, as such. It runs, for now at least, on my server, and I enjoy putting some time into looking after it. The other admin put far more time in than me on the day to day running and organisation.
And we're all agreed that the efficiency of running this place means that donations are not required, or even desired.
As Paul says, 'by enthusiasts for enthusiasts'. As such asking for donations would be a guilty last resort, and members would be completely aware where such funding would get spent, as well as deciding how it got spent in the first place. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, we're a very long way off that situation.
