Fuel transfer

While I am on a roll, I thought I would post this, also posted it on VOD.

Some time ago I copied this method of using compressed air to transfer oil to the car tank (first picture below) from a member on here, Rotary Motion I think. This has been effective and is relatively portable and clean. I just fit it to the container and connect the 12v tyre inflator to the car battery. The only problem was occasionally I would miss judge the amount of oil put in. The result would be a spill, as even when I turn the tyre inflator off, the container is still pressurised so oil still continues to flow. Today I made up a new one putting a valve in to release the pressure. This it does instantly and stops the oil flow.

I'm not sure how to sort the wiki page but I will take photos of how I made both the filter bag gadget and this fuel transfer gadget ( have to make another for a friend tomorrow). Perhaps you can help with this.

You already have editors rights, so have a crack at following the instructions and if you have a problem post up on the forum and I or someone with far more brains will help.

It might all look a bit daunting at first, but once you get your head around it, it's really quite easy ... if I can do it I'm sure everyone on here can!

Here is it working. It takes about 3/4 minutes to empty 24 litres not quick but easy.



This is a further improvement. I machined a bung which fits through the tank connector in the cap and helps with the sealing.

Nice clear pics. I had the same idea but put the valve on the oil out pipe so as to stop the flow there. I depressurise by simply loosening the lid on the carboy. I suppose the downside of my set up compared to yours is that with mine you could accidentally pressurise the carboy with the out pipe closed. On a different topic I took one of my sons to an away match today and what did I see behind the clubhouse kitchen - 30L of lovely clear oil. They let me have it for free. That pays back the 60 mile round trip to the match about 4x over.

Not Rotarys idea, it was mine, he did the pourer , nice upgrade, you could sell one to Chunder, i made him one which he connected to a garage compressor, you can guess what happened, anyway he had to strip naked in the garden before his missus let him back in
